MG TD TF 1500 - Oil Pressure Gauge Line Threads
I want to rig up a 'T' in the oil pressure gauge line to check the accuracy of my gauge. Scoured the archives for information about the threads, but no luck. Closest I found was this from David DuBois: *** David DuBois, Bremerton, WA, USA ddubois at sinclair dot net I use the same pressure sprayer that Sandy writes about, but have modified the sprayer with a 'T' fitting on the end of the hose that I temporarily put in place of the existing fitting between the flexible hose from the engine and the rigid line to the oil pressure gauge. I also set up the sprayer so I can pressurize it with my air compressor. Cheers - Dave **** Can David, or someone else, tell me what the thread is that's on the non-meter end of the copper line? It's the same thread that's on the union on the firewall. Thanks. Bud |

Bud - The threads are 1/8 BSP. Moss carries a 'T' fitting for the later MGBs that use a pressure transducer for part of the anti-run on circuit. It is a double male with a female take off, A standard USPT 1/8 pipe fitting - the threads are close enough that they can be used for what you want to do. Cheers - Dave |

Thanks, Dave. That should get me started. Bud |

Can not find that 'T' in Moss' catalog. I remember the circuit from my '77B. Anybody know the part #? Borrowed a tester from my neighborhood mechanic. The NPT fit reasonably into the BPT end of the oil hose. As suspected, my oil pressure gauge is wildly optimistic and non-linear. I'm not running at 85'ish psi at highway speeds. Looks as if the relief valve is set at about 65 psi. Idle is at 35-40 psi, not 45-50. Bud |

Bud, I used whatever the closest size/thread brass fittings that the local parts store carried to rig up a temp. gauge on my car to the block fitting. I used a bit of Teflon tape and just snugged it enough so it wouldn't leak or damage the threads. I think that is the same thread as the copper/flex adaptor. You could probably make something this way with whatever brass fittings the local parts store has. Meant to answer this before but forgot. George |

I essentially did that, George. The male fitting on the end of the gauge's hose was 1/8 NPT. The female fitting from the oil pressure hose fit well onto it. 28 tpi vs. 27 tpi snugs up pretty well. that gave me enough to coupling to go for a ride and look at the gauge. A 'T' would allow me to monitor a test gauge and a calibrated one at the same time. Bud |
