MG TD TF 1500 - Oil pump
Advice on renovating my 54 TF oil pump. Any measurements/specifications available? Jan |

The work shop manual has it all. Gerard |

And the Moss information sheet has it, and more. See the catalog under oil pump rebuild kit, and click on the blue INFO tab. Make sure the surface of your cover is absolutely flat and smooth; make sure your machine shop uses a surface grinder. Emery paper on a flat sheet of glass usually doesn't do a good enough job. Also check your rocker gear, especially the bottom of the rocker shaft and bushing fit, which are a common cause of low oil pressure. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Thank you Gerard and especially Tom.Probably had not really made myself clear but Toms additional information is helpful.Neither my original workshop manual or that of W.E. Blower give all the "what to really look for" Thank you both once again. Happy New Year |

I used valve grinder paste on a thick glass plate to correct the 'roundness' I caused when using course emery paper to remove the wear on the cover. It works perfectly without leaks, but it did take me at least two hours of 'making figure eights' to reach a good result. On the picture you can see that the edges aren't perfect but they don't seal, so that's not a problem. Here's a nice video on XPAG oilpumps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShHAaDKL3gM ![]() |

That's a very good method, Willem. I've generally used wet-or-dry paper sandpaper (the black stuff used to wet-sand car paint and primer). I use water with it on a glass plate to do similar fine grinding. The water keeps the paper sucked down to the glass (i.e. flat and not rising at the edges) and it lubricates the process. This way you have a choice of different 'grinds' - coarse (220 grit paper) all the way to ultra-fine (2000 grit paper). |
