MG TD TF 1500 - On my list of things I don't want to do again

I just got the windshield installed in the frame with the moss rubber for my TD. What A PITA.

It probably can be done by one person, but 4 hands and a few large clamps with rubber feet sure helped.

I know some of you used other products to seal the glass in and it may be a bit easier, but when your striving for correct, I guess you just put up with the difficulty.

Bruce, What did you use for a rubber lube? Not sure where you had the issue.

Not to rain on your effort Bruce but what I found on the TD 1250 was some slightly rubberized cloth. After struggling with the Moss crap the owner went to the glass shop and picked up something similar and thinner which made the work a lot easier. The owner believes this was the original glass and I saw nothing to dispute that claim.

I am with LaVerne on this one. That cork? impregnated rubber strip is far superior. And I have seen ones with some sort of material too. I like them both.

BTW Bruce, what glass did you use? The FTFU sells authentic 1/4" glass that needs a thinner gasket. I am pretty sure Moss sells the strips suited for common metric glass that is a bit thinner. If you were trying to use the Moss rubber with the 1/4" glass, that is really going to be an issue.

I have not measured the glass, I got it from Bill Chasser. I did have to improve the indents for the upper blocks, but once I did that, the frame did fit together.

I use pam for lube. Moss rubber.

Chris. What was around the frame from the factory?

The channel material Lavern used looks good. laVern. Any idea what it was called? Is is channel or was it in a flat strip?
Bruce Cunha

What was shown Bruce is what came out of the frame. I don't think I have a photo of what we used.

I think it was just thin rubber, and not with the fabric/cork added.

Attached is a close up view of TF9052 windshield where you can see the rubber gasket in the frame.

When I fitted a new glass into the TF's frame I simply set it in good quality, black silicone sealant. With careful masking the job was a doddle. I have done the job twice since we have grandchildren who like to play with balls! Dismantling was no problem, the silicone peeled off easily.

Next time use K-Y Jelly...not a joke, it really helps it slide into place.
