MG TD TF 1500 - one more piece of originality

The only Whitworth, or at least one of the few Whitworth bolts on the TD is the one holding the upper generator bracket in place. Over the years most have been replaced with UNC, since they can usually thread in to the Whithworth threaded hole.

I, myself, probably put a UNC in mine 36 year ago, without realizing it was wrong.

Just last week I had the cable from the starter switch come loose at both ends. I decided I would double nut the starter end. Not finding a proper brass nut in my spares bin, I went to FTFU and ordered two. The shipping would have been half the price of the two nuts.
What else did I need? I thought about my UNC bolt on the generator. Not only did Doug have them, but he even had the authentic "NEWTON" labeled ones.

I still may have more UNC, on the undercarriage, but perhaps someday, perhaps, I will find them If I can get under the car.

Do I see that your generator has a 60's date?

I have had the car since 66. I am aware that something BAD happened to the original motor. The one thats in there came from a later car.

You (Tom) told me the present engine cam from:
Engine XPAG/TD2/16052 was originally fitted to TD15590.
My car is 12789.

the markings on the generator are:

22265E 8 60
C39PV DA41 12V

It would not surprise me if it were not original. The entire cooling system was not original.

Could it be one from a Bug Eye Sprite which also had the tack drive feature?
John Quilter (TD8986)

So did the MG A John. I just purchased a NOS 227772 genny end plate and the supplier, World Wide Auto Parts in Wisconsin, lists the A as one of the vehicles it was fitted to. Cheers

I confess, Jim, that I was chuckling that your post was highlighting a nitty-gritty detail of authenticity (and perfectly correct), but the generator itself was wrong! August 1960 is the date on your gennie, which is a 19A unit as fitted to late TD and TF.

The generator output on a TF I owned in college was so low that whenever I used the turn signal the car would die... I core-exchanged the original dated generator for a 1970's replacement, which I have to this day!

Does that mean that the present generator can deliver more than the 18A of the original?
I know I had a reference as to the outputs but I cant find it.
