MG TD TF 1500 - Only one problem with this Mark II TD/C

Very little to quibble about with this expensive but genuine supercharged Mark II, except the seller neglects to mention that the engine is a replacement. Perhaps he just forgot...

Nice car, is it just me or is that Andrex shock not connected at the top?
Rich (TD 3983) Taylor

I can't find it in the production records?????
td10461 can't be found?
Steve Wincze

Hi Steve, I had the same problem searching a friends TD3 on the T Register. td/c rather than td works for it.
Hi Rich,
the shock is connected, it is just the view,

Steve - As a Mark II, it can be found under TD/C10461.

Rich - optical illusion. There is a plate welded as an arm with a pin, and the top of the link fits over that pin. All in place as it should be.

I had a TD Mk2 many years ago and I think it had a central wiper motor? Also the rear lamps were circular as a TF

Tom,

Does that square plate signify a factory rebuilt/replacement engine?

Jim
JE Carroll

Jan, that just means that the car was built after Oct. 24, 1952 when the tail lights went from rectangular to round. The wiper motor change occurred shortly after that. Bud
Bud Krueger

Hi Bud,

Does that mean Mk2s were built prior to Oct 24 1952. I always though the central wiper was unique to a Mk2. By the way my TD had a record player fitted but I don't think it was a MG accessory!

Jan, I'm sure that our MKII expert, Tom Lange, will come in, but according to the NEMGTR T-Type Restoration Handbook, "...According to the daily production records, the first Mark II to come off the assembly line was TD/C 1123 EXR, built on May 8, 1950." Bud
Bud Krueger

Thank you for that, Bud.

Actually, TD/C1124 was built on May 3, five days earlier than the supposedly-first Mark II, TD/C1123.

This is just another example why working with and knowledge of the production records can be used to correct the misinformation that is still out there.

I'm happy to help with production questions.

Most of the 'wrong' items are easily fixable.

I guess they wanted turn signals and decided to put a turn indicator on the dash. Personally I left that off of my car (late 52) and used a tiny little black toggle switch that is mounted in the same area. I can easily see the king of the road medallions glowing on the sidelamps when its signaling so I did not put anything on the dash.

Since the control box is under the scuttle and I put my flasher on the interior side too, you would have to figure out that I had two wires going to my sidelamps to figure out I have turn indicators.

BTW a few late 52 cars, mine included, have 52 round fenders but have rectangular tailamps. One of those anomalies that don't fit the production dates exactly.

Originally had flat faced tach and speedo, but it is a really nice car. George

It's amazing that even after admitting that the engine has been replaced on this car, the seller STILL hasn't taken the time to mention that little fact in his ad.

It's people like him that give used car salesmen a bad name...

I agree its a really nice car. I too added turn signals to Tommy but like Chris I eschewed the light because of the dip switch. Instead I added a piezo electric beeper. Drives Diane nuts.

Tommy also received a replacement speedometer with the main beam lamp, which is nice at night.
