MG TD TF 1500 - Optima Battery
Just passing this info for anyone interested. The group 34 (Red Top) Optima will drop right in the battery tray in the TFs. Initially tried to get a regular group 24 from my MGB in it and I would have to remove the bonnet to do so. Not wanting to do that, I did a lot of checking battery sizes and wound up buying the Optima 34 and it was a no brainer to install. Just need to get a cover for it, as it's ugly and looks out of place for the car. PJ |

Here is my optima red top, with a few modifications.![]() |

We have talked about them Paul. I'm positive that I put in an Optima as shown originally in the car and when it went south I believe I could no longer get it in black. So it now has an Exide but I believe they are made by the same company.

Doesn't look the part as it's much smaller (notice the quart of oil sitting next to the battery) but I agree with the black it doesn't stand out like a sore thumb. I'm wondering if some of the flat black paint for plastics might suffice?

I think I'll get a tar topper cover or it. Your right, Optmias are no longer available with a black top. The tar topper will at least give it a period appearance. |

I have one in another car. I just spray painted the top with black Rustoleum. It has held up fine for several years. |

The picture I posted is a picture of a red top optima with a modified tar topper case and a locally sourced "Lucas" vinyl transfer. I modified the fake caps on the tar topper to change it from an AC/Delco to a Lucas look a like. I have done a few of these, and they have baffled judges and spectators alike :-) David |
