MG TD TF 1500 - Original LUCAS Distributer tool?

Does this apparently NOS tool appear to be the real deal or a fairly close reproduction? The original that was part of a one owner TF kit, had the numerals as shown in the pic that I took. I'm able to buy a small quantity and wanted to be sure they weren't repros before I pulled the trigger. Seeing the pics side by side, I'm thinking not? Cheers

That's a good question, now I have to go see what mine looks like! PJ

Peter,

If it doesn't have the thickness stamped on it how would one know for which distributor it applies to?
For the TD with symmetric and asymmetric cams it needs to be .010 to 0.012 for high lift cam it needs to be .014 to 0.016

I have seen ones without the stamping on them before. Thought they were real. Don't often see them blackened but there is not much consistency with tools anyway.

There are plenty of repos out there with the stamping on them too.

I imagine you would be splitting hairs at this point and only 5 people in the world might really care. :-)

5 people care? That many?

Some years ago there was a write up about these, maybe in The Sacred Octagon? I recall something about solid vs hole in the rivet? And maybe that there were many variations made over the years. I got one years ago from Abingdon Spares that was supposedly original. The Australian place (In The Point or something?) had info also. George

Thanks George. I believe that the Victorian foundry that supplied these tools to the In Point has now closed down and the remnants were being sold at the M.G. swap meet that we were asked to advertise in the Feb issue of TTORC. The owner had a stand there. When I contacted him he said he had 20 in a box, but when I asked if they were still in the original small manila coloured packet, as you'd expect the NOS to be, he said they were just loose in the box. If anyone wants to buy some they are cheap enough. Cheers
