MG TD TF 1500 - Original Radio Pushbuttons
In the absence of a users manual I am hoping someone can help me with the functions of the 4 left hand pushbuttons. I think they switch bands and tones but I would like to know what each does. LW; MW; SP; MU I think: LW is long wavelength MW is medium wavelength SP ? MU ? Also I think the way the other four work is to set stations and you do that by tuning, pulling the knob out slightly and then pressing it it to lock. Is that correct for the original radio too? ![]() |

Chris I believe you are correct with LW = Long Wave which covers 30 to 300 KHz. MW = 300 to 3000 KHz. Tone wise, I thnk the SP is selected for SPeech and MU for MUsic. Fire up the radio and see if I might be in the ballpark. |

Jim: I am not the owner of said radio. Just trying to document its features. But I like your idea. In the 50's it was popular to describe something via its purpose verses technically what it does. |

MU could meen muting. If that's the case than using this button minimizes or suppresses noise that disturbs the music. Just my 2 cents... Jasper |

Found this on a forum for radio enthousiasts: quote/ Could SP possibly be bandspread quite a few early radios had that facility around 1440 mhz due to the band being crowded in that area. My first tranny was a GEC Luxembourg, one of many sets at the time that had a bandspread around 1440khz (208 metres). If you switched the waveband change halfway between MW and Bandspread you could get the marine band and a ship to shore telephone service, Niton Radio. /unquote On the other hand, I could imagine SP stands for Speaker being a button for a quick way to suppress all functions for whatever reason... I would also guess SPeech and MUsic. I would imagine they are "tone" buttons, one being hi and the other lo. |

Original radio for what vehicle? PJ |

They are definitely supposed to be tone buttons and I am going for Jim's and Geoff's opinions unless someone comes up with some evidence to the contrary. I am 99% sure the MW and LW are the bands as that matches the dial. Paul: This is the radio you could have ordered to have in stalled in your MG TD/TF. Its what the factory provided. ![]() |

Oh boy! Wouldn't that be nice to have! PJ |
