MG TD TF 1500 - Original Tunnel Carpet

I am looking for a original picture of the carpet on the driveshaft tunnel. It needs to show the carpet under the handbrake and cables so it has to have been taken with the arched handbrake carpet cover off.

Any of you restoration documenters have such a picture?
Chris Couper

Original TF carpet except for the floor mats which are new. Sorry, not have one with the cover off.

Matthew.

Matthew and others. The reason I am looking for the carpet under the arch is to see how far it goes back. The repo kits just go a few inches under the arch (which visually is fine) but I am curious if the factory went all the way to the end of the tunnel.

I just noticed in your picture that your tunnel grain is perpendicular to the tunnel while your arched panel is parallel to the tunnel. Now you have me all concerned about that :-)
Chris Couper

Hi Chris,

The TFs I have seen over the years with untouched, original 'Karvel'carpet, have the grain running as you have noticed on Matt's
TF ie.the grain perpendicular to the tunnel.

The Handbook sketch confirms this although of course many features in the pre production
entries are incorrect in many other areas.

I have not examined the extent of the tunnel carpet past the 'arch' area.

I suspect TDs would have a similar set up.

Cheers.

Chris,

Should have added in that the arch cover Karvel carpet does run parallel to the tunnel, however of course as already stated,
the tunnel carpet grain runs in a perpendicular direction.

Rob and Matthew: Lets here from the rest of the world. Maybe this perpendicular grain on the tunnel is a down under thing :-)
Chris Couper

Another picture of the grain going perpendicular.

I decided to sacrifice the carpet they give you for the rear end platform because its going in the right direction. I'll deal with that problem later. Right now I need to get my interior back together.
Chris Couper

Chris and others,

The original 'Karvel' is still available.

About 7 ot 8 years ago, Heritage Upholstery & Trim in Vancouver BC, bought the rights and patents to Karvel. More importantly however, is that they also bought the original looms to weave the carpet.

They frequently advertise in the TSO.

They make sets and individual carpets for the TC/TD&TF.

Suggest you contact them at www.heritagetrim.com.

Thanks. But I already started the Moss Motors kit and now I am stuck with it :-(

If I had only discovered this a few months ago.
