MG TD TF 1500 - Original Type Screw Heads

What type of screw did the British use other than straight slot in place of a Phillips? Meaning, did they use all Phillips or Pozidriv or Supadriv or Reed and Prince? At a glance they all look similar, but are definitely different and take different drivers.
I heard Reed and Prince was used in British aircraft, but have no conformation if that is true or not. Just thought they might use the same in the cars of old. PJ

Hi Paul,

Look in the Archives there's a lot of opinions, but in general TFs used Phillips, slotted for TCs and many early TDs. I'm afaid I don't know about the others you mention, but bear in mind that on many cars screws, especially chromed ones, have often been replaced, due to wear or loss of shine.

Cheers,

There is a thread out there about 6 months ago on the various variants of Philips etc. Basically its almost impossible to find true Phillips screws anymore. They are almost all the wider/deeper new types such as Pozidriv.

For example I am still on the prowl for a few Phillips wood screws for my side curtain plates.

There is a great list of fasteners on T-Talk

http://www.ttalk.info/Fasteners.htm

But not all of the head types are described (slotted vs Phillips).

Chris, What size Phillip wood screws are you after? I have a few of different sizes, maybe I have what you need.

CR. I think they are #8 x 1" oval headed Phillips? They are the ones used to hold the side curtain plates.

I need two.

Chris, I will take a look and see. I am presuming brass if I have them. Cad plated steel most likely is ok as well I presume. If your car is early, I know they would be slots.

My car is a late one. I have 10 screws already. Send me an email and maybe we can compare.
