MG TD TF 1500 - Paint (second try)

I received the woodland green paint from TCP. This was mixed from their paint sheet of 1950's MG colors.

We sprayed out the undersides of most of the body parts today. I am satisfied with the color, and the blow-up paint booth we purchased is really working well at removing dust and particles.

These pictures are after the last coat. Unfortunately, there is a significant reflection from the blue cammo pattern on the ceiling.

I will take some better pictures in the sunlight tomorrow.

Nice!

This looks about right.

That modeled drop cloth makes an interesting image. :-)

Here is the inside of the hood panel out in the light.

This still does not look as dark green as the TD was when I got it, but Woodland green is at least a recognized TD color.

So hard to tell from pictures.

I once had a chance to compare a number or original and matched MG Red TD's. There was a small difference between them but not significant.

We have all heard the stories about how MG bought stuff like pain in bulk. Probably just sent a sample and asked for "close enough".

So once you have a reasonably close color you like, call it and move on.

Bruce,

Nice work on difficult panels. I do like Woodland Green on a TD.

Absolutely correct Chris. Without formulas that we can use today, it is all pretty much a guess.

Bill Chasser had the Nuffield color cards from the 1950's, and it would have been great to have all the colors scanned with current high-resolution color matching systems.

This paint is based on what appears to be a morris 1950 Woodland green (that is what it says on the sticker TCP put on the can). I am assuming TCP is scanning their color cards to produce these.

Here is the same part with the Summitt BRG and the TCP woodland green. You can see the blue tint in the Summitt color. The woodland green looks more green.

Bruce Cunha

I like the Summit one aesthetically but not necessarily from an originality perspective. But then I am a red guy. :-)

Also, as I stated before, you really need to get a large swatch of your interior materials next to both of these to decide. It would be terrible to find out they just did not look good even though the paint was more "original".
Christopher Couper

I agree. The pieces I have from the original interior are really tiny. I can tell they were green, but at the small size, It would be hard to compare them to what the manufacturer's colors are.

Do most of the providers provide larger pieces of material? Even if I need to buy material say for the dash. Getting that from each of the vendors will give me a better idea of which one will be better for this green.

I will start inquiring on what I can get.
Bruce Cunha

My experience is that they will all provide you with extra vinyl. If not I would discard them. I would keep some extra for repair or things you want to add such as a emergency brake cover.

I wish I had obtained some extra material as I once put a small TV in my car and cut the piping just behind the seat. It always haunts me. :-(
