MG TD TF 1500 - Pedal box seal

After cleaning what seemed like 60 + years of gunk out of the pedal box I wanted to ensure that I could seal up the box for future owners. I guess MG never made a seal for the clutch rod hole in the front of the pedal box. I found a firewall grommet that I thought I could modify to do the job. I cut off half of the grommet and inserted the other half from the inside of the box. I also cut off the smallest diameter but would leave it if I had to do it over. It won't keep everything out of the pedal box but it is better than nothing.

Not a bad idea.

I looked in mine.... it's Dr. Terror's dungeon of horrors in there. I closed it back up, the peddle bushings can wait til winter.

TW what firewall grommet did you use? Doesn't look like anything from a T series MG.
Jim Merz

Jim, I bought it on Amazon. It's also available at Jegs, Summit racing, etc.

Declan, nice looking solution. Do you have to enlarge the clutch shaft hole to accommodate the grommet?

Declan: Very nice and I love the oil recovery system.

What is that stainless hose behind the pedal box for?
Christopher Couper

I had an ugly hole with a useless gasket. I had a small bellows and just tie wrapped it in front of the hole. It's been there for years and blocks the dirt from entering very effectively. It's not a seal, just a block.

Tim,
No you don't have to enlarge the hole. The PVC gaiter holder is turned on the lathe with a lip to seat in the hole. The gaiters are not cheap but highly flexible made from nitrile.
You can see it better in this photo. I have two versions-one with rare earth magnets and one with self tappers where you have to drill two small holes in the box. It is also possible to just glue the holder to the box with silicone. The kit also has the rubber bung for the bottom and the cork seal for the lid.

Christopher,
That is the stainless steel braided hose that I use on my remote brake reservoir kits.

I have Declan's clutch rod kit with gaiters and it's a beautiful piece of workmanship. Now that I have my two-post lift installed I plan in installing the clutch rod kit this winter after driving season is over. Jud
