MG TD TF 1500 - Pre-treating the cork valve cover gasket?

I read (or heard), somewhere, that the cork gasket could be "pre-treated" , by spraying it with a clear product, then letting it dry, before assembling it with the usual sealants....
This "product" would help prevent oil staining , and possible penetration....
Anyway, I have done several searches on various forums, and can't find out what it is, or where I read it.....
Anyone heard of or read this?
Thanks....
PS
Please , just address the "spray" question...I'm well aware of the usual sealants and methods.

IMHO,
I really believe that there isn't anything that you can put on an old fasioned cork gasket to prevent it from seaping/leaking/staining over time... the cork gasket has to remain pliable to do it's job properly. Any coating that would seal the surface might make it not so pliable

The pre-treating is called soaking in water for a few hours. Old school. :-)

It won't help for stains but will make it seal better.

This is what I use, High Tack. I spray the gasket on one side, let set up then spray the other side, after which I put in place and tighten up. No leaks on my cork gaskets, side cover or valve cover. It does give them a faint cherry color though. You can use the brush on also. PJ

I just remembered that I spray them two times before installing. PJ

Well, I guess I didn't read it on this forum....
Wow...age is really taking its toll....
It might have been on a John Twist video, but I can't contact him through his web site (my browser isn't compatable with his "query"), and I haven't been able to find the discussion there either.
So, back to the drawing board.....
Thanks folks

"T" expert, Dave Braun, answered the question on another forum....(Thanks Dave!)
The answer is to paint the edges of the gasket with clear acrylic nail polish, let it dry, then mount and seal as usual.
Thanks all for your efforts....At least I now know that I didn't dream it, after all.

"T" expert. ~snort~

My Scoutmaster always used to say "Ex as in past tense, and spurt as in drip under pressure."

But I'm glad I was able to help.

Warmly,

What's this 'other forum'? Bud
Bud Krueger

Aha! Google says that it must be 'The MG Experience'. I see somebody looking for side curtain box dimensions. Can someone send him to http://www.ttalk.info/CurtainBox.htm ? Bud

Bud, done.

I was taught never to send people from one forum to another, competing forum, as it is not considered good Internet etiquete(sp?)....
Anyway, that's why I did not mention the "other" forum by name.

I don't think I committed that foughpaw - I just posted the link to the article. At least I hope that's all I did.
