MG TD TF 1500 - Pretty happy today

I know some read my post about non functioning trafficators on my TF well yesterday I dismantled every light, every bullet type join and every earth I cleaned all contact points, I then made sure every wire in this system went back to the correct terminal on the Relay, the relay would not kick in on one side so I just gave it a slight bending pressure with my finger and away it went, now have trafficators operating as they should.
Been busy patting myself on the back LOL

George,

Good for you!

Years ago I had a heck of a time with my turn signal relay box. It drove me crazy. And yes, after much inspection of all of the contacts on each coil pack, and a lot of thinking, I, too, was able to bend the contact arms to the proper point where everything fired up correctly.

That box has caused a great deal of grief for many of us, and the fact that you figured it out, and saved some bucks doing it, puts you into the Master Mechanic category, or something close to it.

Congrats!

Good job, George.

Now that you have become the resident expert on turn signals, I have a question for you ...

My signals work, but the indicator light in the dash flashes one time, then stops. What do you think is the problem? I haven't opened the relay case yet.

Thanks,

I have the same issue with the dash indicator light on my TF. Bad ground. Just get my hand up under the dash, rotate the bulb holder firmly against the socket, and then it works again, for some days or weeks. Probably should work on a more permanent fix one day..

I had the same problem with a parking light the other day. Painted the car too well and while it worked initially, the ground failed later. Funny thing was the turn indicator worked but on the parking light. Scraped a bit of the paint under the bolt away and it worked great.

Originally I don't think my car had flat washers under the parking lamp bolts but I upgrade during the last painting. The lock washers probably dug into the fender and made a good ground. The flat washers did exactly what the were supposed to do but did not provide an adequate ground.

Hey Lonnie thanks for elevating me to the dizzy heights of resident expert but I am far from that on this make of car , actually I really just followed advice given here on the forum I was told it could be an earth and I think it was in the end , one thing I did do was leave earths bolted to the body as they were originally but at the same time I attached a wire from that earth point straight back to the Battery earth, I have done this on many old and modern cars I have had, in particular when fitting driving lights.
