MG TD TF 1500 - Problem with NTG

I ordered a disk brake kit from NTG on December 3rd. They received their payment the same day. A week later I received an email saying the order was delayed while they were waiting for parts. Sometime after that I contacted them and they said they were still waiting for parts. A couple of calls to them this week went unanswered. Has anyone recently received an order from NTG? Their statement "Thank you for your valued order. We will do our best to process this without delay and will keep you informed of our progress!" is ringing hollow. I'd suggest holding off doing business with them until my situation is resolved.

I ordered and received mine about a month ago. Arrived quite soon (1 week?) after placing the order.
Was surprised by a customs due bill though.
Don't know, didn;t uncover if due to our admins tariff war (yeah the shipping country pays BS) or for some other reason like contents above a certain amount.

Tariffs have always been in place Randy. Some items will come in from the UK duty free....like tires for example. Other parts depending on what they are will be taxed. Sometimes depends on how the shipper lists the item shipped on the paperwork. I made a very large order from the UK last year to beat some proposed tariff increases by you know who. I don't know if they have been applied or not. And yes it's BS trying to make you believe that the other country is paying for them. It's basically a national sales tax on consumers.....to the tune of 5 billion dollars last time I looked.

Randy and LaVerne, my first order from NTG arrived quickly and with no customs due bill. I wonder if politics is rearing its ugly head?

Tim, it's not uncommon for UK companies to close for the period between Christmas and the New Year and whilst I can't see any notice of such on their website, I'd hold off until 6 January and try again then.

It's the holiday season. A lot of smaller businesses close for a week or more. As far as waiting for parts, that isn't unusual at all. It's a custom kit for an obscure old car. An even more common situation for older or more rare cars than these.
Steve Simmons

Depends on whats in the box Tim. There is an exhaustive list of tariffs on anything you can imagine. If you are bored and want to have a mind meltdown...have a look

https://hts.usitc.gov/current

You should have a Harmonized Tariff number that you could punch in and it will take you straight to that tariff schedule.

Sometimes it's all down to how the shipper listed the part in question. I expected to have to pay a fee for a muffler I bought from Moss UK as it was no longer available from Moss USA. Nope...they listed it as antique tractor parts.....hmmm...ok works for me...even if it isn't a Triumph.

Different carriers also handle the fees differently.

UPS for example has delivered packages to me and then billed me for the tariff after the fact. I made several orders in the last couple of years...a new set of 60 spoke wheels from Rimmer Brothers via DHL was held in Cincinnati until I paid the duties. Big order about a year ago was shipped Fed Ex and held in Memphis for a week until Rimmers finally got the paper work customs wanted and then I paid it before it went to me. If they had waited one more day the parts would have been sent back. I also had to fill out an importer paperwork due to the dollar amount coming in. Also something new to me.
L E D LaVerne

I never allow overseas purchases to be sent to me by UPS. They run their own customs clearing house and not the brightest people staffing it.
I once ordered a water manifold for my PB whose part number was 1448. I was presented a bill by UPS for some outrageous amount of money. It seems as they had charged me duty on 1448 water manifolds, not just one.
Despite numerous complaints and explanations, they insisted I owed the money and no amount of negotiation did any good.
Lew Palmer

Checked and yes my delivery came via UPS too.
Didn't know about any ability to specify delivery carrier. Will try to remember for future purchases!

Hi All,

I ordered a water pump from them in december - got to me (UK to Hong Kong) in 4 days of ordering.

Cheers,

I buy from NTG all the Time. Paul has really been helpful in finding correct bolts. They have nice bolt kits. So far. No customs fees, but then my orders are normally small parts.

I received an order about two weeks ago.

Steve, my first disc brake kit from NTG arrived in a week. It is almost a month since I ordered the second.

They said they were waiting on parts, so it sounds like you got the last complete kit and now they're waiting for the parts to make more kits. Seems normal enough to me, and it was nice of them to let you know instead of just canceling the order or leaving you in the dark. Companies like this who aren't doing Wallmart quantities run out of stock sometimes and it takes a while to gather the parts from numerous sources, kit and package them, and get them to waiting customers. Even the biggest sellers in our hobby aren't very big in the grand scheme of things. I waited several months for a part from Moss once, and just last month got a water pump I was waiting three months for. The only way to avoid it is to buy a more common car. I'd rather wait. :)

They must be shut for the Christmas break
freight is coming through from UK ok
I ordered a heavy box of stuff from Burtons on Christmas eve and it came yesterday--1 week
Can't ask for any better mail speed than that

Steve, you are the customer every retailer hopes for. It has been a month since I ordered the parts. Other than a note a day after I ordered the parts and an email initiated by me there has been no update for 3 weeks. Nothing. My credit card was charged the day I ordered. I've been dealing with LBCs and other foreign cars since the 60s so I really do know about parts and the ordering process. One guy I have talked to got a kit after me so, no, I didn't get the last kit. So, I'm not thrilled with their customer service. And a little message on their answering machine stating they would be closed until a certain date would seem to be a good way of doing business.

Tim
Timothy Burchfield

Many European companies close for the week between Christmas and New Years and depending what day of the week New Years Day falls. The closure could last longer than a week. Also, the heavy volume for Xmas shipping could contribute to the delay.

Happy New Year

The problem I have with the scenario is a customers CC shouldn’t be charged at all until the product is boxed up and leaving the vendor. To do otherwise is just a poor business practice to get into.

Exactly Bill.

I received an email from NTG this morning. They offered their sincere apologies for the lack of updates on my order. The machine shop supplying a part for the kit has had personnel problems and has not been able to complete NTG's order. NTG says I will receive the disc brake kit this month and that they will keep me updated on a timely basis. I'll report back if and when I receive the order.

On December 13, 2019 our Florida dealership bought seven 2018 Ford Utility Transit Vans from an outfit in Arizona. Wire x-fer $153,000 up front, delivery PRIOR to the new year.

Realizing these vans would have to be transported via car carrier, we were advised it would take 4-5 days to arrive in Florida... Eight days later, only four vans arrived. Two more vans showed up two days after that.. The last van was delivered January 6th.

E-mails and phone calls - no reply. Zero communication from the auction house or the carriers who were hired to transport these vans.

Cheers
