MG TD TF 1500 - Problem with the Horn

I have an issue on my TD. Since some days is the R/H horn no longer working while the L/H horn works as it should.
All cables looking good and they are properly connected. If I cross with a screw driver the contact spring with ground the horn works.
Any suggestion what’s to do?
Thank you

Guenther,

I had the same situation until I put the horns on a relay. Then they both really made noise.

good idea Jim, but what could be the reason for the failure?
GK Guenter

Sounds like a poor earth connection. Might look ok, but a layer of corrosion / oxidation is an insulator.

Basically low power. The relay allows full voltage to go to them. As Dave H noted good connections are a must, not just for horns.
James Neel

Guenter, since a direct contact to ground works, the problem is on the ground line going from the horn to the horn switch. Both horn ground lines feed into a 2:1 bullet connector which then connects a line into the horn switch. On the WSM wiring diagram you can see this 2:1 connector directly below the 'HORN PUSH'. It has the number 40 on it, 40 being the wiring code for Brown w/Black wires. IMHO, it's likely that your wiring problem is in the wire connecting your right horn to the 2:1 connector. Bud

Bud, I check the wire diagram and I understand your point. As you said it should be a ground issue.
It is not easy to get behind the HORN PUSH and it go behind the dash board.
OK, I'll go behind the dash to fix the issue.
Thank you all for help,
Cheers

You might also try cleaning the points with a little fine emery cloth. The points will corrode or oxidize with age and arcing.

I suspect a grounding issue at or near the horn itself. If one horn works okay then the horn push circuit sounds okay.

Sandy, the horns are not electrically grounded. They are 'floating'. One of the two contacts gets connected to the 12v line, the other goes to the horn push where it gets to ground when the button is pushed. The horns would work if they are not physically in contact with the car. Bud

May not fix your problem, but here is John Twist video about Lucas Wind Tone horns …

Bud. You are correct.
My choice of words at 86 is somewhat kerfluzzled. I know that the horns are electrically hot and the button does complete the grounding circuit.
3 flaps fom a plastic noodle rearranged my thoughts.

@ Bud, thank you for your help, you was right, one of the bullet was out of the connector.
