MG TD TF 1500 - Quality of used parts from Abingdon Spares

Has anyone experience with used parts directly from AS? I'd bought wheels via ebay and after that it was clear that the parts came from AS - but not really as good as described.

I purchased the chrome strip down the middle of the bonnet on the TD.
It was obviously used but in very acceptable condition.
I believe it was as described.

It was the Older AS owner however.

Yes, from the old owner, no problems. Consider anything used is now 65+ years old! George

The gentlemen who run Abingdon Spares are eminently reasonable. If there is a problem, I urge you to contact them directly, and I am sure they will do what they can to make things right. Probably most of what you were paying was for freight.

Wheel rims are a particular problem, as even on close inspection it is difficult to determine what is straight and what is bent. The newest of these rims is more than 60 years old, and they have run many a mile and encountered many a curb.

At considerable expense I have tried to have some professionally straightened, but the wheel expert said that even he was not satisfied with the final result - TD wheels are VERY tough to bend straight.

I totally agree with Toms comments. If you have a problem, give them a call to discuss it.

Mr. Mueller,
I am not sure what type of wheel you are referring to, but Abingdon Spares LLC in Deep River, has never sold used MG wheels on ebay.
We have excellent feedback on ebay, and it is well known in the MG community that we always try to remedy any issue with products we sell either thru our website or phone orders.
Also, I am curious how you bought something on ebay and then "determined" that it was from Abingdon Spares?
Like I stated above, we do not offer used MG wheels on ebay, but all items the we do offer on ebay are clearly designated as being sold by Abingdon Spares, we have no other ebay account.
The former owner of Abingdon Spares does still sell used parts on ebay, under a different name, Abingdon Spares Cars and Components, part of our agreement was that this would not be the case, but that is not an issue for this forum. Perhaps you purchased these items from that seller on ebay?
We do sell used parts occasionally when we have them, usually at substantially reduced prices, and they are always clearly described as such. In many cases we send the prospective purchaser a photo of the item before they purchase. Such items are usually not available from other major suppliers.
In the future, if you have any issue with a part you purchased from Abingdon Spares LLC in Deep River, CT, please call us to resolve the issue before making such comments on the forums.

I've bought several parts, new and used, from Abingdon Spare and I have been very satisfied with their products and service. I agree with Mr. Cooke that a call to the supplier (assumed supplier in this case) before making negative comments about them online is the right thing to do.

They stand behind their new and used parts 100%! Ed, Martin & Matthew personally answer the phone, will check stock, even give you measurements if you need, while still on the phone. I did have an issue with a few used parts, they said "Don't bother sending it back!"
"We will ship a new one to you, deducting what you paid for the used one".
It is great doing business with them.

It could have been a reseller that purchased them from Abingdon in the past. They did sell used wheels years ago. Suggest contacting the seller through ebay as most MG people are great to work with. George

@ EC Cook

I'm living in Germany and do not know facts that obviously are well known in the states about the company AS e.g. new and old owner.

Let me explain.

I'd bought 3 wheels for my early TD via ebay - those with slots, because I have a car with only 2 good wheels. It's been 1 1/2 years ago. The seller had a nickname I forgot meanwhile. It was "carsand???" and his email was abingdon@???.

The description sounded in a manner that made me expect, that the wheels are without kinks, round, sandblastet and primed with paint and prepared in a factory.

They were shiped to a carrier and from there shipped overseas in the trunk of a car that a friend bought in the U.S.A.

Depending on the long lasting shipping and customs I got the wheels weeks later. After receiving the wheels I noticed that the sender was Abingdon Spares and I was astonished. I was also astonished that the wheels did not match the description and until now I didn't found a workshop to bring them into that state I want to have. But it was too late for a complaint via ebay.

May be there was a supplement in the adress - but I'd seen "Abingdon Spares" in the address. After your explanation it seems that I'm wrong and a victim of that devious circumstances. I thought AS choosed a sales channel for spares that are diffcult to sell via the shop (this is common in D e.g. for returned goods). In that case I regret to muddle someone with Abingdon Spares and ending in wrong conclusions. I'm a satisfied customer of AS and wanted purchase a used part the first time (I'v done allready). I'm glad to hear that they have a good reputation for used parts.

I believe the seller you describe sells on eBay under the name of "carsandhay." I would not hesitate to contact the original seller, discuss the matter with him, and report back how the matter was settled.

It's unfortunate that there has been an identity confusion, but I think it is clear that this business transaction has absolutely nothing to do with Abingdon Spares LLC, of Deep River, CT.

Abingdon Spares has undergone a significant and welcome change in the past few years under the new ownership, with lower prices, better stock and service, knowledgeable, consistent and reliable staff, and a plentiful supply of used parts, as well. I can't remember the last time I needed to order from the other usual suppliers, rather than AS.
