MG TD TF 1500 - Radiator tags

I was working on my Radiator today. I see the guarantee plate on the fins. I also see a small tag on the tank that says Beevers radiators.

I see listed in some of the catalogs a plate that says Morris Motors LTD.

Did all MGTD's have the Morris tag? Is the Beevers radiators tag original or was the tank serviced and this is the shop tag? Tag is on the top of the core.

The guarantee tag is on the fins, so I don't think the radiator has been recored.

Bruce Cunha

All cars should have the Morris tag IMHO.

There was (is?) a Beevers Radiator shop in Lubbock, TX in 1946. Did your car get anywhere close to TX?
Christopher Couper

Discussion recently on a Morris Minor forum showed this brass tag on the radiator. My two cars have them but most all are well painted over by now.

When I had my radiator recored tis spring we found this tag on the old core. I had it transferred to the new core.

Mine has the patent number like in Jim's picture. Just no Morris tag. Which I find odd as if it was recored, the patent plate would likely be missing.

Chris. Not that I know of. It was a CA car pretty much all its life. It was owned by a person in the Air Force, so it is possible he went to Tx and then back to CA.

I would guess no one has collected the Morris tag numbers to see if there is any pattern to their numbers?

John. Can you list the numbers on your two and what cars they go to? Give me something to use to make a new plate.

I would imagine all were painted as they were soldered on prior to the radiator being painted.

Bruce Cunha

Also, is there a specific place the tag went?
Bruce Cunha

The tags can be transferred from old core to new. Also, it's entirely possible that your radiator was replaced by one serviced at a shop in Texas or anywhere else that had a shop with that name.
Steve Simmons

My cars are Morris Minor 1000s. One built December 1959, one June 1960. The 1 X 3 inch tags are on the back side of the upper tank under the fan guard. Sorry, too many coats of paint to determine any numbers.

John Quilter (TD8986)

OK, now to type. Abingdon has this one

Or this one that MGBits lists

Bruce Cunha

The one labeled TC/TD is correct for the top of the tank, at least into early TD. I don't know about late TD and TF. The one on the core itself is a patent plate.

You will have to find a car close to yours to get a reasonable number for the stamping.
Christopher Couper

That page differs from the reportedly original radiators I've seen, unless there was a change during TD production.
Steve Simmons

Jim,
495125 is one on the patent that is on the lovely patent plate. It describes a staggered pattern for the inner cooling tubes.

Tw tags on my 53 TD
The morris one and core manufacturer one. I guess aftermarket.

Thanks All. Chris. Sorry I did not see your Details page. I forget all the stuff you have out there.

So it appears that there were two plates used. I wonder when they changed? LC has a later TD with the brass tag.

Wonder if the second tag was on the TF?

I will check with Bill Chasser as he has two TD's that are close to mine in numbers to come up with something that will at least look factory.

Chris. Your page says the brass tag was on the right side of the radiator core. That is where the patent plate is on mine.

Bruce Cunha

Sorry to interject on this thread, with an unrelated issue.

Bruce Cunha, would you please contact me via email?

Thank you.

"Chris. Your page says the brass tag was on the right side of the radiator core. That is where the patent plate is on mine."

I'll fix that. Mixed the two plates. And I'm stealing Jims patent plate picture too. :-)
Christopher Couper

You are welcome to it.

Jim B.
JA Benjamin

Thanks for confirming it was backwards. Thought maybe I was going crazy.
Steve Simmons

Hey Chris. It obviously happens a lot. I ordered the ID tag from AS based on the picture on their web page. Got it today and got the Patent plate. Looked online and they have their pictures reversed also.
