MG TD TF 1500 - Re Dad and TD4834

It is with great sadness to report that dad has been moved to live out his final days/ hrs In a care facility. He had declined rapidly over the last weak and his organs are shutting down. Multiple mini strokes has chipped away at his ability to communicate and move about. He is now bed bound and has lost most of his vision and tactile
Senses. He is still able to communicate and continues to have a sense of humor but says he is ready for the Lord to take him across the rainbow bridge. He so wanted to see and take a ride in the TD but I have about two days worth of work to make it road able before I could bring it home. The plan was to finish the car at home so that he could sit outside and watch the progress to completion and take short trips as he could tolerate the West Coast GOF is days away and will go by without us ever being able to do a run together.

Yesterday dad and I talked about his rally days with the SSCC and he gave me driving and cornering tips. But he biggest concern was that I not get hurt in the car. But now, the car seems not so important and I look at pics wondering if I'll ever enjoy driving it after all.

I will be away for a while as I come to grips with dads outcome in the near future thank you
For your thoughts and prayers in advance

With Solemn Regards

Sorry to here this Bill. Was looking forward to meeting him next week in Rhonert Park.

Hoping his final days are comfortable and memorable.

Bill

My prayers to your family. My dad passed away last October and his TD is now at my home. It also needs a bit of work to get it road ready.

For me I can't wait to drive the car. The TD was his pride and joy. I will continue to take care of it as if it were mine but it will always be Dad's car.

As I motor around town and through the corners of all the back roads around here I know that Dad will be sitting there next to me enjoying the ride. I hope the same can be said of you and your dad as well.

Bill, may your dad's way out of this world be peaceful and painless. Take comfort in his readiness to go.

Here's hoping that you'll finish the TD in good time and enjoy that connection to him as you drive the car and participate in events that he would enjoy.

Bill -

I have a tear in my eye (maybe more) for you. I so admire your relationship with your dad and your desire to complete the car. Your are both lucky to have each other.

Don't give up on the car. It is a tribute to both of you. I think of my dad every day when I touch something that was his or think of something that we did together. It's causes a wonderful lump in my throat that makes me smile every time.

Best wishes,

I think the TD will become a source of happiness and good memories for you. I know I always remember the good times I had with my dad when I use his tools or employ a trick he taught me when I worked for him at his garage. I sincerely hope your dad's last days are easy on him and you.

Bill,

He knows you tried and didn't give in to compromise, that's what matters.

My dad and I bought my '30 Model A together in '72. I know he'll never ride in it again as frail as he is and being 700 miles away he won't be coming for a visit.

I think of him every time I look at it.

So sorry to hear this news.
I am sure you will think of Dad every time you get into the " Little car".

Dad crossed over the rainbow bridge last night. I'd like to think he did it while broad sliding the corners , with the hood and windscreen down, wide open throttle and a big smile on his face. Dad may you once again enjoy the twisting canyon roads in you beloved SSG TD/C with mom at you side .... Safety Fast.

Rest in Peace Master Chief

Sorry to hear of your loss Bill. I lost my dad a few years ago and a son a couple years ago so I know the feeling. I'm sure your dad will see a lot of his old time friends up there, not that it's any consolation to such a tragic loss. Life is a lot of memories and as long as we keep them alive, they'll always be with us. Bless you and your family in this time of need. Paul

Bill,

Condolences on your loss, losing a father is one of life's major events but I know he was very proud of his MCPO son and every ride in the LBC will bring back great memories accompanied by a smile on your part.

Like others my prayers and thoughts are with you and your dad.

Losing someone very close is always difficult but the lose of parents, spouses or children seem to have the biggest impact.

Put a small framed picture of your dad in the glove box because he will always be with you enjoying the ride.

Bill, so sorry for your loss.
May he meet up with my dad " over the rainbow bridge". My dad is also at WOT throttle full lock over steer, in the heavens.
My prayers for you & family.

I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and condolences. To every thing there is a season .... And now a new one starts
For me and my Aussie Sarah. You all are the best group of people I've never met. Thinking I'll wander over to GOFWest and take a break from all this. I don't think he would mind. Then Sarah and I can go to the coast and sit on the beach and watch a sunset. I'm doing okay but she is a real wreck. Sarah was dad's granddogger.

JWP I like your thought of a picture in the glove box

Once we return, I will endeavor to finish the car and take
Dad for that ride up the coast to Fort Bragg and scatter him with mom at sea.

Bill, sorry for your loss. My Dad-in-law and my favorite uncle were both CPOs.

Regarding the picture, I went to Staples and bought a small pack of business card sized magnetic sheets with adhesive on one side. Great for adhering a picture or an award certificate to your car. Might be suitable for a picture of the Master Chief. Jud

ps: The one I did is on the tool box.

I finally went to the shop today to work on the car. The first time since dad's passing. I just stood in the doorway and stared at it for the longest time. I turned around and closed the door behind me. My heart isn't in it anymore. I just can't find my motivation to finish it. There is no joy... No need to complete it now. I'm very heart broken. Reality has set in that pop is gone. There are so many other things to attend to and the TD is no longer a priority
W. A. Chasser Jr

It'll come back. Give it time.

Sorry Bill, beeen there too. One day it will help.

Perhaps it is still too early. My grandfather owned my TF from before I was born. I used to have him take me on rides all the time when I would visit. We even did a few rallies together. When he first passed away I decided I didn't want the car because with him gone, it wouldn't be as much fun. It was always something we did together.

Grandma put it up for sale and for a time I was fine with that. Then, at some point, it became very real when an uncle mentioned that someone was quite serious about buying it. Fortunately for me, he didn't go through with his offer. It wasn't until that point that I realized I was ready to keep it.

Give the car some space and come back to it later. Perhaps it will be a good way to remember your dad after you've had some time to process his loss and the great sadness associated with it.
