I have the rear springs out of the car. do I take them apart clean and paint, when reassemble are there pads aon rear between leafs, and what about oiling them before or after assembly. thanks all.

I guess it depends on a few things,,
What condition were the springs in before dismanteling?
Was there any sagging?
Are you going to use poly bushngs?
Yes, there were pads on the original springs.
Oil might destroy the new so called "rubber" pads,,,

Clean and reassemble. look for cracks , etc. when apart. New rubber/silicone pads are a good idea. If you lube the pads make sure you use a silicone/teflon grease and a very thin layer. I would also suggest that when you re-install, switch the springs side to side. The one you took off the right side put on the left , etc. This will balance out any body sag and leaning. Oh... and use a good paint.

Good luck.

I had mine sand blasted & noted that each spring carried either one or two punch marks at the same point on the edge of each spring. This indicated which spring belonged to which set. The original interleaf rubbers were in pretty good condition but as I'd purchased new ones I thought I'd change them anyway. This caused a HUGE problem! The new rubbers from Moss were thicker than the originals & on assembly actually reduced the eye to eye distance considerably. This meant that the installed spring would spring up at the rear shackle without warning & damage both the rear apron & the guard. Enquiries revealed this had happenened to a couple of other owners here who had used these rubbers. In those cases the cars had been completed & the damage caused to the bodywork was considerable & very expensive to repair.

Prior to disassembly lay the springs on edge on the bench & mark out the locations of the front & rear eyes. Ensure that the reassembled springs reproduce this distance exactly! It is amazing how just fitting slightly thicker rubbers causes such a decrease in the critical eye to eye measurement. The attached pic indicates where & how the rear shackle springs up. I wouldn't use oil on rubber. Dow Corning make a silicon release agent that is compatible. Putting the driver's springs on the passenger side is a good suggestion. I primed then spray painted mine satin black using enamel. Be warned! Cheers

I actually switched the individual springs side to side. If you measure the height of each spring as you reassemble you can arrange them so both springs are close to the same height.
