MG TD TF 1500 - Rear spring support bracket
Hello, The front support bracket of the rear springs seems to be bolted and welded to the side member. Is it original ? It seems to be welded only on top and bottom but not on the side walls. Are there captive nuts in the side members ? Laurent.

Mine is exactly like that Laurent, seems they bolted them together and then welded around them. Chris

Yes exactly like that. A friend with a Y Type which has an identical hanger had one rot out. He fabricated a new one and we unbolted it,, whizzed off the weld and fitted the new one.BSF welded nuts inside the chassis. Ray TF 2884

OK thanks for your answer. I saw a photo of a frame with the bracket kind of folded under the sidemember. Probably a fixing. Can you remember the diameter of the BSF ? The bolts are also welded. Not easy to unbolt. I could grind them but quite impossible after to free the captive nuts. Laurent/

When we ground off the welds we were surprised how easily the bolt undid. We used a small disc cutter to remove the welds then struck the cut edge with a drift to free off. Can't remember the bolt size though, probably 3/8 BSF. Ray TF 2884

Checked old records, 5/16" BSF. Ray

OK, Thank you Ray. I think I could make it. I start a new thread for my global issue. Laurent.
