The Brits always say it so nicely..... :) Pity my wife does not quite share quite the same view ... But I'm working on it :) |

Must be a heck of a lot of folks around the world retiring. All I see is commercials on companies that can help me invest my retirement funds. Right now, looks like I am going to join the couple around July. |
Bruce Cunha |
I get to join the gainfully unemployed at the end of April. Not by choice, but because the office is closing. No furniture, no computer, no work. Fortunately, I have retirement income, investments and savings. My income should stay about the same. I'll just have more free time to spend it in. |
John Masters |
"Must be a heck of a lot of folks around the world retiring. All I see is commercials on companies that can help me invest my retirement funds." That's called the baby boomers :-) I got out ahead of the rush 11 years ago. Cheers, Dave |
David DuBois |
I got out ahead of the rush 11 years ago. Cheers, Dave Were running a close race Dave, 2003 for me. I have told the wife that I'm thinking of going back to work to get a rest! I spend more time now doing the honey do lists, notice I said lists, plural, than I ever did while on the job. I'm catching up though, I'm down to one short list now! Only a dozen or so things left. Grin. PJ |

May 31, 2014 (63 days but who's counting?). The lists have already started appearing. Jud (ever so slightly pre-Baby Boomer) |

Friday, the 13th of July, 2001 -- Polaroid decided to 'retire' a big bunch of us. It was a disaster. Bud |

It is the best gig ever invented. Sure I could use some more money, butwho cares. I love retirement and all that goes with it. I don't feel sorry for you guys still working, you get two days a week off and I still need the check. Had Lunch with Gene and his lovely bride last week and saw the cars and some others that were in various states of repair, had a great time, only wish it could have been longer... Thanks again Gene. |
Tom Maine |
I pulled the plug in January and moved to a climate where I can take the TD out all year. (Coastal North Carolina). So far I love it! |

I turn 66 on April 30 and Uncle Sam says that I will then be of full retirement age for SS, so I'm done May 1st! And yes the 'list' is already making me nervous - work maybe easier! Interesting how so many TD owners are in this age range. Regards, Jim |
James Budrow |
I hit 65 six years ago and since my dad had me driving a tractor at age six I was really ready. Now I wonder how I had time to go to work. Of course those grandchildren seem to take up a certain amount of time for some reason. Jim |

We might be the last of the T'series owners and also the last of the retirement group too. The world does not seem aligned to either of these concepts anymore. |
Chris Couper |
" I have told the wife that I'm thinking of going back to work to get a rest!" That's universally true, But I wouldn't trade it for anything - I get to do it on my time schedule - if there is a good band playing at the Elks on Thursday afternoons, we drop everything and go dancing. The absolute best part of it though, is that I no longer have to get up O dark thirty and fight traffic to get to work. "We might be the last of the T'series owners and also the last of the retirement group too" Unfortunately I think you are absolutely correct Chris. Our son in law has said that he doesn't think that he will ever get to retire (and he has a very high paying job as the head of the IT QA department for Starbucks (I guess that one of the perks working there is all the coffee he wants). Cheers - Dave |
David DuBois |
I join the ranks of the retired on September 30. I certainly hope to have more time to do my own thing and work on TD0460 Richard |
R A B Wilson |
Jud - "63 days but who's counting" You need to make a short timer's chain - just any kind of flimsy chain (even one made of 62 paper links - you could get a grand child to make it. Take it to work and hang it where it is conspicuous and remove one link at the end of the day - drives coworkers mad with envy. ;-) Cheer - Dave |
David DuBois |
I'm 66 now, and really ready to be done. I retired once and then started up at another job. My wife has been so good with my MG hobby that I'm going to work another year so I can fund some house projects for her. Last fall, I added my 51 TD and she is very enthusiastic about me doing what is needed to get it on the road. I feel very lucky and hope we have lots of years to enjoy our MGs. |
CMA Adams |
Dave, I've just been informed that I have a full year's worth of vacation accrued so that plus weekends functionally reduces the 63 days to 24. I'm sure I can find 24 paperclips. Love it!! Jud |
J K Chapin |
Jud - " I've just been informed that I have a full year's worth of vacation accrued so that plus weekends functionally reduces the 63 days to 24" That's really great, especially when it is unexpected like that. In federal sector, we could only carry over a month's worth of leave from year to year and I took my retirement at the first of the year, so I only got a bit over 30 days but that sure beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Do you suppose we can have an on-line retirement party? Cheers, Dave |
David DuBois |
on-line retirement party? Great plan. Let's do it. |
J K Chapin |
You guys make me sick! ... still only 60, lucky enough to be fit and well, own own business(bad English?),will sell up when we're ready, but running YA,TD,BGT,Mini and Jag( X )makes it likely I'll have to keep going for a while yet! Enjoy yourselves, and we'll catch up eventually. John. |
J.P. Hall |
Dear Sirs, Can you please party elsewhere and stop this G-rated thread? I'm this far from reporting it as abuse! At 48 I'm BRG with envy! (G is for geriatric) ;-) |
Willem van der Veer |
You can rant and rave about all the ins and out, ups and downs of retirement, but the acid test come in one simple, common denominator ... Are you still getting any action??? I'm 81, and although I'm "chemically dependent", it still feels as good as it did when I was 15! anonymous |

After about 11 months of retirement, I can heartily recommend it as a life style change. It is quite a treat to stay up and see the 11:00PM news. Unless it rains, I take Penelope (TD581) out for a spin almost everyday, after walking the dog, etc. Enjoy! |
Charles Duffy |
Gordon - You are my hero - Stay in the saddle my friend. Cheers - Dave |

Promised myself I'd retire when I was 62 and did...the day before I turned 63. Loved retired life but jumped at the chance three years later to go back to work for "just 3 months" out in San Diego. That "just three months" turned into 9 months of commuting between Mississippi and California and cured me of ever wanting to work for a paycheck again. Nearing 70 now, never have enough time to everything that needs to be done but love being able to say "I will do it maņana". Gene |
Gene Gillam |
OK, All this talk about retirement and honey do lists. Those of us who like to work on and drive our old cars have it made and very few in my opinion miss their 8 to 5 working days.Just think about someone you proably know who has no post retirement interest other than sorting their socks. As far as honey do lists go try this. Look the list over carefully, besure to ask if the list is complete and if it is take a sharp object and cut any remaining blank paper off then retire to the garage and enjoy your retirement. |

The key to retirement is enough money to pay the bills and a little extra and having a hobby that keeps your mind and body active. I bitch about the honey do's too but really I get a great deal of satisfaction doing them and making my lifetime supporter happy. Having grand kids near by also helps. Funny how many things my grandfather taught me. Maybe someday they will feel the same way. Dads are really busy with everyday life. Joe |

>I bitch about the honey do's too but really I get a great deal of satisfaction doing them and making my lifetime supporter happy. > I retired 8 years ago. I am 80 now. I told SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obayed)I spent 50 years working on the everyday honydoos and that all the honeydoos are on hold until the TD is finished. Except for emergency repairs its holding. Gordon, my friend, you are a better man than I. What with heart attacks, open heart surgery, cancer, at 73 I seem to have lost interest. About all the action I get is winding up the TF on a spirited run around North Georgia. Congratulations, and may you always be youthful. |
Larry Brown |
Larry, Always great to hear from you. I was going to swing by your place last week, but I the hurrier I went, the behinder, I got. Maybe next fall. Keep healthy. Gord |
