MG TD TF 1500 - Riley off topic

Hi
I had a chance encounter with another MG owner two weeks ago. After talking about our cars, he mentioned knowing a fellow with a Riley saloon. I spoke to that man and his Riley could be for sale. It is a 1950 RMB 2.5 litre. Older restoration. Not registered since 2001.
Attached is a photo. I have more. Contact me if interested.

Hi Tom,

I think the Riley you show has the twin overhead cam six cylinder engine. There was also a smaller capacity four, in the same body. These are superb engines the only issue being white metal bearings but I think they were later changed to shells. I have often wondered why MG didn't use this since they were both part of the Nuffield organisation. Even more perplexing MG fitted the B Series engine into the Magnette ZA and Wolsley used the EXPAG in their similarly bodied badge engineered car.

RM series had a high camshaft with short pushrods and was produced alongside T's and Y's at Abingdon. It looks like an OHC because of twin rocker covers over a Hemi head. I think also that the rear axle is a Morris item similar to ours.

This Riley has the 2.5 liter 4 cylinder twin cam engine. The interior is nicely redone, but in fabric and vinyl. I presume these cars came trimmed in leather. New headliner. It would be a nice resurrection projection for someone. Unfortunately, its current location is in a very remote part of the Western US.

A very rare car to find in the USA !
Officially only the 2,5 litre Riley was exported to the USA either in saloon, drophead coupe or roadster form. 1950 was the "peak year" in exports with 17 roadsters, 127 drophead coupes and 75 saloons sold in the US. It is estimated that only 460 or so RM Rileys were sold in the US, the majority by Inskip.
The RMB is a pure Riley design, first assembled in Coventry and since 1949 in Abingdon. The later RMF had a Nuffield design split type rear axle.
Fabric and vinyl upholstery might be original. There was an MG TD with a 1,5 litre Riley engine built but it never reached production.
Just my 2 eurocents....;^)

These are neat cars but the condition of the wood body framing is critical. The wood A pillar is very susceptible to rot and replacing it is a massive effort.
