MG TD TF 1500 - Road Trip
Back in October I took my first "extended" trip in the TD. It was just under 250 miles, but enough for me to consider it a "road trip," as it exceeds what I would take as a day trip. It was to attend the Texas MG Register's Fall Gathering of the Faithful. I had attempted such a trip the year before but my water pump blew a rear seal and ended that one about 25 miles from the start. Here's a link to where our club newsletter with the article is on Dropbox. It starts on the front page. Hope you enjoy it. Maybe we can all share similar experiences here. https://www.dropbox.com/s/728z3j0240gs1xx/January2015Newsletter.pdf?dl=0 BobbyG ![]() |

Well done, Bobby! I hope this is just the first of many such trips. We take our TC on one or two extended journeys each year, usually one short trip of around 600 miles, and one long one ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand. These cars love to be driven! You can find several of my GoF West trip reports at this link: http://www.mgnuts.com/tales/ |

Thanks, Steve! I've visited your site a good number of times. The account of how you found your TC gives me envy and fills me with hope. It is my hope to have a TC before too long. Like many of us my love affair with MG's was stoked by "The Red Car." A red TC is my dream. Thanks again for the kind words. BobbyG |

Steve: That's a great website and the trips looked real neat too. I thought I saw a theme within your trips: ice cream :-) ![]() |

Ha! Yeah, that does seem to be a theme. It gets hot here in the West. (that's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it) Bobby, the TC is a fantastic car but it's a lot more primitive than a TD. The solid beam axle and aggressive steering make it a handful, and the narrow tires offer far less grip and a rough ride. It's essentially a pre-war car, and a true sportsman's ride. But if that's your cup of tea then I don't think you can buy a more useable classic sports car than a TC. |

That's great Bobby... I'm working slowly towards my first road trips too... I just got her back and legal and on the road last year and seems like every week I've been stripping stuff off and not spending enough time driving around... I'm hoping to make a serious road trip this summer though! Drive ON! |

So do we need a new metric? Miles per Ice Cream Cone :-) |
Christopher Couper |
Would that be from the first lick to the last crunch of the cone or the distance between cones? Jud |
