MG TD TF 1500 - Rubber Boots for Starter Switch

Anyone have a source for good rubber boots that cover the terminals on the starter switch? Maybe a similar boot that is slightly oversize?

Mine split either when installing or at best after a year of use. Maybe the connections on my cables are too big. Maybe the nuts are too big. Maybe it's just crappy rubber.

I'm sure that this has been discussed. I searched the archives with every combination of terms that I could think of - no results.

Thanks,

Not commenting on the quality but the Moss ones won't work?

I’ve split every one that I have purchased from Moss and from Ab Spares. Same problem on both of my TFs. Difficult to slip on. Splits soon afterward. I ground the ends of the cable connectors to reduce their width. Didn’t help.

I’ll look for “non-MG” boots that will fit.

Lonnie. I hate to say it but it is indicative of what passes for rubber nowadays. No rubber product coming from the vendors has a service life beyond opening the package. I had rack bellows fail in less than a week. The only rubber I’ve not seen fail yet has been the TD grill shell lace and the firewall strip. Every thing else has cracked and deteriorated in a years time or less. Even when the cars are kept in protected storage.

Perhaps another small part for Declan Burns to look at making?

I think I went with ones from From The Frame UP. I know Doug has been really working on getting better rubber products.

I don't know whether they are any better, but the last ones I bought are these:

These little terminal boots are important as if left exposed and one is twiddling around with a wrench in the vicinity of the rear carb one can inadvertently touch the terminal with the wrench end producing a quite alarming sparking!
