MG TD TF 1500 - S/S Exhause fitting
Hi I want to ask one more time before I put the front of the car together. I have installed a new SS exhaust. I fitted a new copper gasket at the head pipe exhaust manifold joint. I did NOT use any sealant. I posted a question about this and got one response from one other who did not use sealant. Last night was watching Classic Car Rescue on Velocity. Those British Blokes used exhaust joint compound and said "they always do". It was a MGB they were working on. So, what do you guys do??? Tom '54 TF |

...the copper gasket should compress and do fine....? |

Gonna' get in trouble for this one, but --- just keep your nuts tight. Seriously, two out of the three aren't easy to get at, but they need to be checked. If nothing else, make it a routine for every time you change your oil. Bud |

Based on what I've seen on that show "Classic Car Rescue", you would do well to observe carefully everything they do, and then do the exact opposite! |

Jack Yes! Know what you mean. That MGB GT that they fixed up on the Nov 15 show was quite the rust bucket. I sure would not want to drive that car down the road, knowing what they started with. Hard to believe that it would pass the MOT!! Tom |

Tom, when I bought the Falcon SS system from Moss, I bought their gasket. It appeared to be metal impregnated with Kevlar or some other material. Fit was perfect and no leaks. PJ Oh yeah, anybody know if the original nuts were Brass? ![]() |

Hi Paul, Yes, the original nuts to the muffler and header were brass. Frank |

Thanks Frank, I have to get some, not sure of the thread size. Maybe Moss will have them. PJ |
Paul sr |
Moss has the exhaust manifold nuts, but does not distinguish if they are Brass or not. Anyone know? PJ |
Paul sr |
You can call Moss and ask. I bought mine from Doug Pelton "From the Frame Up" |

PJ, I just bought the studs and nuts from Moss and they are brass. Mort |

I cut my own gasket out of sheet copper and used no sealant. No leaks, even with supercharger. |

Paul, there's a guy on eBay who is machining them from brass and having a Whitworth wrench size. Great pricing. I just bought 3. Bud![]() |

I'm with Bud. I bought brass nuts from this fellow also. They are tall, well made. Just like he says. Tom '54 TF |

Thanks Bud, Just ordered 6 of them. Put 3 in the drawer, might need more later. PJ |
