MG TD TF 1500 - Save a burnt TD
I am a member of a salvage pool and this burnt TD came in and Ive been waiting to bid on it. Well the TD finally came up for sale but just like the cash for clunkers car it was only allowed to be sold to a scrapper to be crushed and I wasn't allowed to bid. A lady at the auction remembers riding in one as a kid and bent the rules and told me who bought it. Well I called them and asked if they would sell some parts and the owner said the only way was if I could make the whole thing disappear for $650 just a bit more than Im willing to pay for the parts I want (motor and rear quarters). If there is anything on there any of you could use to bring it into the price range let me know and I'll do my best to get this car saved from the crusher.

Outside of MAYBE the bare engine block and the gear box case, this car looks to be a total loss. The frame, gas tank and any remaining sheet metal will be to warped due to the heat. Shame. David |

Much as I love to save orphans, that one is even too far gone for me (and I already own a burned-out Mark II...). The tub is worthless, the interior, instruments, wheels, etc., you MIGHT get the transmission out of it, and maybe the engine, but I wouldn't hold my breath for too much else. You woulds certainly end up throwing 90% away. I'd buy the VIN plate from you, just to keep it off the market, and to document the car's destruction. Tomn Lange MGT Repair |

I would hate to see the block scrapped. Getting hard to come by. |

I went down and bought it today The ID plates were still on it but forgot to take a picture to verify the info. I just bought it because I live right in the middle of all the NASCAR builders and some of the fabricators want measurments so the can make some correct reproductions here in the states and one guy that does customs wants to build a tube frame and use a repop T series tub and doors to start offering Morgan like cars with modern drivetrains. Its great to live around so many talented gearheads. Many great little bits still on the car for anyone needing something. |

I need the choke levers, but I don't think sending them makes economic sense? |

I wish you were closer, I would love to have the bonnet, warped and all. For that price I would have bought it also, just to save what I could. |

Sorry Willem carbs were melted. D.Sander will add more pics when I pick up the car. Steve wish Cali were closer Id send whats left because right now I cant keep much around. HOA. |

Well if you take a road trip out west, throw it in a pickup! Or at least the bonnet. ;) |

Willem, I'm surprised that you were interested in damaged Choke Levers. These are easily available new and relatively inexpensive from SU. See http://sucarb.co.uk/levers-throttle-stops.html Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |

Gordon, I know they are readily available, but my aim is to equip my Y-type with a twin H2 setup, as per TD with original (left over) parts and for as little money as possible. Yesterday, at an agricultural fair I finally found the correct TD AC oilbath airfilter for a rediculous € 10,-, to match the 'snorkel' that I found for € 20,-. Twin H2's with L+R floatlids came from a Magnette etc. etc. It's just for laughs; yesterday somebody asked why I should fit two carburettors. The only correct answer is; because I can? |

DCD was that your differential that sold on ebay for $150 today? |
W. A. Chasser Jr |
Yes it was. I still have many bits and pieces that may be helfull to others. I'm sending out the horn brackets to an enthusiast today. Trans tunnel frame supports soon. And if anyone needs the tail of front fenders and running boards for support brackets I would rather ship them than throw them away. |

I would have bought that in a heartbeat but I'm on the W?C and your add was for local pu. My rear end is toast |
W. A. Chasser Jr |
Did the rear cross brace and cowl cross brace survive? |
R Brown |
WA, where is CA are you? I have a complete rear end that is surplus to my needs. Let me know if I can help. |
Steve S |
I put in my ad that I would have shipped if buyer arranged for it. Ebays shipping calculations are soo far off that it cost me to sell a bigger item this summer. |
DCD Durlin |
R Brown Frame seems to be solid and so I think Im just going to keep it for a frame up project. |
DCD Durlin |
Steve, I'm in Sacramento CA |
W. A. Chasser Jr |
I'm in So Cal so it would be a bit of a drive. Oh well. |
Steve S |
Steve what do you have to have for it, how far south?? |
W. A. Chasser Jr |
Shoot me an email to mail, @, mgnuts.com (remove commas/spaces) |

W.A. The guy who won the auction still hasnt paid and has till 6 tonight. He did call about shipping it and I told him I would crate it and haul it to the frieght carrier but he hasnt done that either yet. Just how much of this rear end do you need it may be cheaper to ship you whats bad in yours. that is if I dont get paid. Hey after all I wouldnt have listed it so cheap if I didnt want the money. |
