MG TD TF 1500 - S.Co.T. / Italmeccania superchargers
Anyone out there have or had a S.Co.T. / Italmeccania supercharger on an MG T car, or just had a collection of those parts? As these were built under license from Wade, anyone with one of those can Wade in here, too. I'm starting to piece together an old unit and would be interested to hear of other's experiences, or help someone else along with theirs. There are a couple others on the forum I've already communicated with. I challenged myself to calculate the displacement without disassembling it, and came up with roughly 46 cubic inch per revolution, although it could easily be 45 cu.in. modeled after the Marshall J45. I needed to find this out to figure out drive ratio to work with 1466cc. At the price that the last two Marshalls sold on ebay,$5500, (and those weren't even necesarily in running condition), it could be well worth our while to restore these. |

I'll also have to say, we Arnott going to exclude discussions of the Arnott blower, either. Heck, anyone with a blower can chime in at any time! The more, the merrier. Anyone with a chain drive? ...direct drive off the crank? |

Hello Jim. I've been running a Wade on my TD for quite a few years and am setting up another for my Y. I'm having to machine a couple of pulleys for it. I also have a Scot/italmeccania that I'm refurbshing that I will sell when I'm finished. I have all the various parts for it. Butch Taras |

Butch, Great! Nice to hear you have 3 gems from yesteryear. Are there any pictures, if it isn't too much to ask? Does your Scot have a single or double sheave pulley? I have to assume the crank/blower pulley ratios are about the same ratio as all the Eatons for the TD. Ours is going on a 1466cc XPAG so I'm going to revamp the drive. Was there a unique waterpump supplied, much like the thermostat housing? I've got that stat housing/tensioner but don't intend to use it. I have a lighter weight steel support that supports the blower from beneath. I've also seen a bracket (cast aluminum?) that is supposed to bolt along side of the thermostat housing, but it isn't apparent that there is anything to bolt to. Which did you acquire? JIM |

Hello Jim. What pictures do you want? On the Scot, I think it has a double sheeve pulley. I'd need to pull it down to be sure. I've got the lower bend housing that sits below the thermostat housing that the belt pulley tensioner adjusts on. The adjustmbent bracket is cast as part of the housing. I'm not sure if it is for a TC or TD as the angle is different. I've attached a picture of the wade on my TD. I've been collecting pictures of all the various superchagers for the T series as they show up on e-bay and elsewhere. I also have a few factory drawings of the parts, manily pulleys for the wade. ![]() |

All pictures are worth a thousand words, like the image of the Wade you published. Never saw anything like that with all the plumbing. One of the mysteries is when were those SCOTs marketed? The way the carb manifold snorkels around behind the blower with the low profile Solex, it could've been designed compatible with TF. Gene Gillam emailed me drawings that show the radiator tank is supposed to be modified- the radiator hose nipple has to be cut out and resoldered rearward to match the new thermostat housing. Looks as if they had to make room for the twin belts. I saw one package that had a water pump included so that raises more questions. I'd display the drawings except Yahoo mail is so messed up, images cannot be retrieved. |

Jim, you may have your security setting to high. It sometimes changes when things update. I have had some problems in the past using Yahoo. |

Tom, Yahoo mail had a major overhaul for the worse and there's no going back to the old format. When I "REPLY" to an email, it now becomes just one long correspondence with messages back and forth strung together and no attachments available. They aren't treated as separate emails. Am weening off Yahoo mail and moving more to gmail. |
JRN JIM |
Jim, I agree it is now a piece ofcrap but what do you do. I hate changing e mail addresses |

I dont want to hijack the thread. I moderate 5 Yahoo groups and the changes they have made are for the (much much much more) worse. I would not recommend gmail. Google reads the content of every email and targets you based on keywords. Consider downloading a FREE email client like Thunderbird and just using your ISP. Jim B. |

Jim, Re-sent the photos to you - feel free to share here. I may have originally received them from someone on this list but due to age (mine) I can't remember who. Also found this: http://www.streetrodderweb.com/tech/0706sr_h_and_h_flatheads/viewall.html Apparently they're being remanufactured now (or were) - not sure if the size is the same but the gears look the same as what are on mine. Here is the information I sent to Jim concerning the Italmechanica superchargers. I would love to give credit to the person who furnished me the information originally but it's been several years and several computers ago so I've lost his name...just letting everyone know that I am not the original source. There are going to be 5 photos posted...here's #1 ![]() |
