MG TD TF 1500 - Screw Driver Needed

A friend with a very nice, original TD is hoping to find an original screwdriver for his tool kit. Anybody have one they can sell?

Thanks IA

I have one that is either original to the MGTD/TF or perhaps its an MGA or other British car. Not certain. Its very close to my original screwdriver but not exact. Its a Shelly.

I have one up on ebay for $10. #251381645986

You do not want to know how many I threw out when I was a kid!

The one that Chris is selling is getting very hard to find downunder. Just spent all Saturday at the huge Bendigo Swap Meet and did not see a single perfect-pattern screwdriver of any size or make.

Matthew.

Yes, I know the vendor.

?'s On the subject of screwdrivers:
Just curious: TF built October of 1954.
I have a black "bake-lite type" screwdriver in my kit.

Have seen kits with both the wood handle and this one.

So...what would be "correct" by date of assembly?
Anybody know "when" they changed over?

I originally assumed the wood one to be harder to acquire, but have had reason to question that as of lately.

Thanks,
David

David. Right in the owners manual it states that not all the tools were provided and you may not have everything they describe or show. I believe it was catch as catch can for each car from both a content perspective and especially a manufacture.

So if you have seen evidence of another TF having your type of screwdriver I would say you are good to go.

Chris Couper

My TF1500 has the same Bakelite handled screwdriver; I've seen others in TFs.

Yes, both types are correct for TF's. I have period advertisements showing the Bakelite handle. The perfect pattern ones could be either King Dick or Shelley. I would love to add a Bakelite screwdriver to my tool collection if anyone has a spare (can trade).

For some reason I seem to have become mildly obsessed by the Perfect Pattern style screwdrivers. I think I enjoy seeing these well used tools and wondering about the individuals that used them years ago. I started picking them up on eBay when I could get them cheap. I have managed to reign myself in for the time being at least. This is my collection to date. I wouldn't describe the largest one on the bottom as a perfect Pattern type, but I think it is of a similar era.

I can't seem to get the pic to upload. I'll try a bit longer.

Screwdriver pic I hope!

Kirk - Irwin used to make a set of three - quite nice, and not very expensive. Probably no longer, as they were quality tools...

Tom,

I think I may have seen those. But, is Irwin a USA company? For some reason, if I could identify them at all I was trying to keep the collection British made. I honestly don't even understand what started me down this road...I eventually decided that my limited funds were much better spent on TD parts.

Kirk..SNAP!

Middle one is my original TF KD.
Shelley's flanking. Then mixed sorts including a couple more Shelley's.

Matthew,

It appears to me that I'm not the only lost soul that caught the old screwdriver bug! I like your collection. Now I'm curious how many others are afflicted with the same disease?

Kirk

Kirk Trigg

A disease?

M Magilton

NOW you tell me ...?

M Magilton

....That explains a lot!

M Magilton

Matthew,

I have several of your other items as well. But, you definitely have me beat. I enjoyed seeing them. I've been trying to collect the nine inch King Dick girder type wrench for sometime to go with my three smaller ones but the cheapest I have seen on eBay is about thirty bucks US. I can't bring myself to part with that much for a bit of fun. Congrats on your collection.

Missing is the right-angle combo wheel-nut remover and hub cap pry for TDs and solid wheel TFs.

For the wire wheeled cars, a copper mallet was included
