MG TD TF 1500 - Sealing the floor boards
Just got my 15/32 marine grade plywood to re do the floor boards. What type of sealer is recommended? And paint? semigloss black enamal, or something else? thanks, Tyler |

The factory used cheap black paint. I use a minwax black stain, I think it is called Ebony. It is a custom mix stain. I follow that up with three coats of satin clear polyurethane. It looks great and offers outstanding protection. Remember not to use any sealant at the joints of the floorboards. Water WILL get in, and you want it to drain properally.

I just uses urethane varnish - 40 years on and it still looks good - Oil from the engine takes care of the underside as well :) Rod. ![]() |

I made mine from phenolic plywood which only needs sealing around the edges and no need to paint it at all. Phenolic plywood is used for truck and trailer flooring and is highly durable. Regards Declan |

I found a MinWax poduct that does the coloring and sealing all at once. I applied a couple of coats. Bud![]() |

I sealed the plywood in the floors with a water based acrylic (thinned), making sure to do all sides, and the edges twice. Allowed to dry, scuffed and then painted with two coats of a good marine paint (black). Just brushed it on and allowed to dry. No brush marks as the enamel is self-levelling. |
