MG TD TF 1500 - Seat Runner Rubber Buffers TF

Does the rear of TF seat rails have rubber buffers? There are two holes in each side of the frames and they look as though they once took rivets which could have secured rubber buffers.

The holes are for screwing the runners to the floor.

Matthew, if you screw them down, how on earth do you retrieve all the odds and sods you drop down there? I don't think I've seen a screwed-down seat yet!

David, trust me, if you drove around our twisting roads like I do, then you would NEED to screw the seat to the floor!

Matthew.

Hi Mathew,

Are you certain the rails are screwed to the floor front and back? If they are why did MG fit a hinge to the front? Also the hinges lift the rails slightly and they don't fit flat on the floor. If I bolt them at the rear they will bow and the seat won't slide properly. The mystery does deepen though. I have been to look at the seats in a TF that's for sale in Glasgow. It simply has fixings for the hinges and nothing at the rear so the seats can be tipped. However the frame with the cross bracing and hinge flaps has one hole in the rails at the rear - i.e. the one that could secure the rail to the floor or take a rubber pad or perhaps be left empty. My car has two holes at exactly the same centres as the rivets that hold the hinge. It looks as though when they were made the rails had holes punched at each end. On the advice of my upholster I have fitted two hard wood strips under the seat rails. He is going to cut and bind slots in the carpet so I can simply lift the carpets out for cleaning or drying.

Gday Jan,
I have never known the rear holes to be for anything else other than screws but maybe one day evidence will come to light to prove me wrong. Yes, they seem to contradict the hinges and maybe they were only used by competition-oriented drivers for screws? I have had my seat twisting under me during sharp cornering and it is very unpleasant without the screws. I do not know why your rails would bow unless you had a very thick carpet or underlay to hold down? I have never come across any rubber stoppers myself. I still have the factory seat covers and factory carpet (now safely stored).

Cheers,
Matthew.

I don't think I have ever seen screws in these holes.

I have original-carpet TD and TFs just leaving the shop today, and neither has the rear seat-adjuster rail screwed down. I don't believe I have ever seen it screwed down.
