MG TD TF 1500 - See if your opinions are the same as these owners

Only thing I take issue with is "leg room is more than adequate." And the comments about the 12 volt electrical system are funny since it became the norm many years ago! BobbyG |

Sounds like a great little car. I think I'll get one. Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

I can't wait for the day I can do my own evaluation in TD4834. I must make a reproduction of that MG questionnaire and fill it out for myself to display with the car Cheers Bill Chasser Jr TD4834 |

"a high degree of reliability for every day use"? hmmmm |

Back in the day when every part was new, yes very likely so. My dad bought his TD/C in '52. and said it ran and drove flawlessly with the prescribed maintenance schedule. Unfortunately the car suffered in a sandstorm in Nevada with no air cleaners and that became the undoing of dads ownership. |

W.A. Chasser: My TF apparently has a TD/C engine, as a re-fit no doubt. What do you know about that engine? Any information you can offer will be interesting to me. |

Frank, Tom Lange has extensive knowledge re TD/C or TD3s I believe. He would be the one to get more info from. I can say though I would like to have your engine. How did it come to rest in your TF? You may even be able to trace the engine back to its original chassis based on the engine #. it would be interesting to find out if the car it came from still exists. I believe Tom has a list of the MK II serial #s. I have no personal knowledge of dads car as it was sold long before I was born. Dad's memory of specifics about his TD are sketchy 50 yrs later. Ive been trying to find pics of the car but there doesn't seem to be any here at home. He was big in the club seen and competed in club events but again have not found any local event photos of the car Without taking it apart it would be difficult to say what stage tuning it had done to it either by the factory or a PO. You could measure the cylinder head height with it on the engine and determine a theoretical CR, pull the manifolds off and check for porting work,. If the head still is a TD/c or TD3 head it will have larger valves higher rate springs, a different intake to match up with the SU H4 1 1/2" carbs. The inlet pipe and air cleaner are larger to match the carb but since it resides in a TF now those are probably missing. That's about the extent of what I may know. Blower's Mg WSM gives the various tuning stages and dyno ratings Regards Bill Chasser Jr TD4834 |
