MG TD TF 1500 - side curtain frames

Starting to work on the top before the holidays and have a small question. I got 13 bare frames with this car and don't know how to measure for a 2 bow & 3 bow top. I'm not sure where to find this information. It looks like there may be a couple of TC or TF pieces in there also. Thanks, off group is OK. Scott

This link on for the Moss kits looks like it might help

I think this is the same: http://www.ttalk.info/Curtains/NewMoss.pdf Bud

Hi Scott. A careful reading of the Moss document above suggests that there is conflicting info in relation to the TD & TF frame sizes. The following has been copied from the link Bud posted & refers to the front frames:

'TD 2 Bow. Measure the length of the steel piece from outside to outside edge. It should be 22 5/16 inches long. (About 19 3/4 inches would be TC, and over 22 is a TF)'

'TD 3 bow. Measure the length of the steel piece from outside to outside edge. It should be 22 5/16 inches long. (About 19 3/4 inches would be TC, and over 22 is a TF)'

'TF. Measure the length of the steel piece from outside to outside edge. It should be 22 5/16 inches long. (About 19 3/4 inches would be TC, 21 3/4 is a TD, over 22 is TF)'

Moss are stating that the length of that piece on a TD is 22 5/16" & is also 21 3/4". Obviously both measurements can't be correct. I'd suggest you use the Moss info with caution if you are looking for a definitive answer. I'm also interested in what the actual sizes are for the TD 2 bow, as I have an early TD. I'd also like to know the details for the others as I have a few screens & I'd like to be sure so I can label them correctly. Cheers

Thanks all very much. I now find with your help I have frames for all T cars and not a complete set of two bows for this car. Scott

My 1951 TD, built Nov 1950, [2 bow] still has its' original frames complete with the original coverings. If anyone wants to make up a drawing of the frames, and indicates what dimensions they require, I will be happy to provide the dimensions.

Would you be able to post close detail photos showing frame colour and the rear rivets please George?

George, if you could check the dimensions provided in the Moss link from Bud above that would be a great help. You'll see that there are pics of the frames with figured dimensions superimposed. Maybe you could copy & paste the pics with your TD 2 bow dimensions bracketed beside the Moss ones. The 'Paint' program would be good enough. Doesn't have to be pretty just as long as it's clear. That would really help me. Cheers

Please use http://www.ttalk.info/Curtains/index.html when looking at the Moss side curtain information. That way you will see that the data is being presented with the permission of Moss. Bud

I have measured all 4 of my side screens, and using the references that are shown on page 4 of the web site noted above by Bud Krueger, are the results. I would like to point out that my side screens have never been damaged or deformed.

Drawing:

2A 2K 2F 2H

22 5/16" 9 1/2" 17 3/4" 7 3/4"

Mine: [right side]

22 1/4" 9 3/8" 17 7/8" 7 3/4"

Mine: [left side]

22 1/4" 9 3/8" 18" 7 3/4"

I feel the above results are a good example of hand manufacturing as opposed to machine manufacturing.

Thank you George. This will be very useful to those of us with 2 bow TD's. I've made a jig to knock up a few pairs of front frames based on an original but seriously rusted & deformed original pair. Your measurements pretty much confirm those I used for the jig. I can now proceed to weld them up. Thanks & have great Xmas. Cheers
