MG TD TF 1500 - side screen fixing

My car is missing the Chrome fittings on the top edge of the door where the pin on the side covers locate. I 've obtained the correct fittings, hex top and about 30mm length thread.
Can someone tell me if there is a metal female thread fitted into the top door frame or does the chrome fitting simply screw into wood.
If its a metal female thread them what thread?
The holes in the door top seem to have had the thread supplemented with glue

On mine the thread is in the wood. I imagine it was cut by the screw thread on the chrome fitting being turned into a correctly sized hole in the wood. There shouldn't be a need for any adhesive, Maybe somebody tride to lubricate it, which shouldn't be necessary either.

Eddie same on mine-no glue. Note that the hole in the chrome fitting is off-centre for adjustment.I also added a washer.

No fitting. As Declan says either put an optional washer under it or leave it a bit proud (as original) once you have it turned to match your side curtain.

Hi Eddie

I recently installed these into my newly built and skinned door. I had to first drill a hole through the metal and then the wood. Gradually increased the hole size untill it was slightly smaller than the chrome insert that holds the sidescreen.

At this point I started to screw in the insert. Gradually a bit at a a time then unscrewing and adding some lubrication by way of 3in1 oil. Finally using a ratchet I managed to get it in all the way.

It wasn't all plain sailing as the second insert broke in the door and I had to very carefully drill it out buy another and start again.

When the tub and doors came back painted I had to do it all again as the paint had reduced the size of the hole. There was some very small chipping of the new paint around the hole. It is very nearly covered by the flared top but I know it's there!

Finally the shape of the inside of the insert allows you to twist slightly for a better fit for your sidescreen. You will notice the hole is slightly offset.

Good luck Darryl

This one broke while screwing it in leaving half in the door resulting in a difficult extraction. Best to just take it slowly add a lubricant and unscrew regularly untill it is fully home.
Good Luck
