MG TD TF 1500 - Silicon Hoses
A few issues back in TTT2 there was discussion about silicon cooling hoses. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them. They sound impressive, but are a bit on the expensive side (36.38£, clip set at 9.98£). Vendor is http://www.classicsiliconehoses.com/ Bud |

Bud, I used a piece on the top of the tank to the thermo housing. It's the large diameter one. Besides the fact that it is flexible enough to use when the ends are misaligned, I like that it is flexible enough to take on or off without moving the radiator. It's been on a year or two with no problems. Mort ![]() |

Thanks, Mort. Did you buy it from the UK source? They seem to only be willing to sell entire sets. Bud |

Bud, Sorry ....The second picture was a different hose. I will try to find the receipt and let you know. Mort |

Bud I have them on my TD and I agree they are very expensive and I still am not entirely sure why I fitted them. In retrospect I am not sure what real benefit I derived Be aware the supplier here in the UK was very keen to make sure I only used their clips. They said that ordinary clips would cut into the silicone. Mort is right...they are very easy to fit. Ray |

Thank you, Ray. The writeup and publicity from TTT2 was quite strong. The idea of being able to easily r/r the thermostat housing is a temptation, but not at that cost. I might do it if I could get only the top hose. Bud |

Bud, You can buy the hose by the foot from McMaster-Carr. Like Ray, I used the better quality hose clamp. It was probably recommended at the time. You can see them in the photo I posted. Mort |

Bud, about one year ago I bought such silicon hose and I am very pleased with it. Talks in our MG club made me inspect my previous hose carefully and to my surprise lots of cracks were around the expanded area although that rubber hose was only a few years old and had only served duty (hot coolant) for the last two years. The lady of Classicsiliconehoses is very friendly and helpful, her name is Mary Gee. The silicon hose is much softer and easy to fit. The material as such is easier to damage and that's why the vendor is so keen on using the correct no-sharp-edges-clips. Huib |

Bud, I installed a set of their hoses, very pleased with them. Regards, Jim |

Bud, I bought the larger hose (and clips) directly through John James - expensive yes, but easy to work with. I did have to shorten it at each end to fit but it's been on and off several times with no problem. Gene |

Gene, I think that was a 'limited time offer' thru John, but I'll give him a try. Thanks. Bud |

John James is checking on it for me. Bud |

John found 2 top hoses, one for me and one for himself. With the amount of cooling system r/r'ing that I'll be doing this winter I think that the formed silicon hose is a good investment. Thanks for the reminder, Gene. Bud |

Glad he was able to help you, Bud. |
