MG TD TF 1500 - Silicone Sealants - Permatex
Tom L recommends Permatex Ultra Copper RTV Hi-Temp silicone for his Roadster valve cover and tappet chest gaskets so that's what I'll use. The first place I went didn't have it so I got P-text Hi-Temp Red RTV silicone and P-text Form-A-Gasket. I suspect this topic has been fully hashed out in other threads but are there any places I should use Red or Form-A-GSket in preference to Ultra Copper? Also, is using a smear of the Ultra Copper to hold the copper washer in place on the oil drain plug during reinsertion a good idea? Thanks. Jud |

Jud, Thread sealant on the plug threads makes the copper washer function moot. Regards, Tom |

Thanks. I'll go back and get a tube of the thread sealant. Jud |

Jud, I have never used a sealant on the oil drain plug. BTW, the correct washer is not solid copper. Bud |

Bud, give me a hint :-). Is it crush washer? A copper steel composite? Fiber? Something exotic? I've got 50 cents invested in the flat copper washer but I can raid the cookie jar if necessary to get the correct washer. Jud |

Mine is just a fiber washer and it doesn't leak. PJ |

The OEM is a crush washer. Nothing exotic. Bud |

Thanks Bud. It will be interesting to see what Moss (LBC) sends as 324-800. Jud |
