MG TD TF 1500 - Small Town Vermont MG Story

I thought I would take the TF out for a "shake down" trip tonight. The car has not been driven on the highway since I put it together after a total body off chassis restoration.
The first thing I noticed was the throttle was a little sticky- not unusual for freshly rebuilt carbs. I picked my son up without incident. As I was driving in to Richmond village, accelerating through second gear, the gas pedal hit the floor, and the throttle was stuck wide open. I shut the ignition off and pulled over, to find the throttle linkage came undone due to a nut falling off. As luck would have it I had some 2BA nuts in the glove box. It is almost dark at this point, when a pick up truck pulls up and the guy yells "hey, don't go anywhere, stay there!" As he is parking his truck, a woman pulls up and yells "Hey, you, wait right there!" and she began to park her car. They ran up to me and began to tell me they just got a 1948 MG TC and need help with it. Then they asked me if I knew about this all MG show that will be in Middlebury. "Know" I said, "I'm kinda running it." . As I was talking with this couple, a third car pulled up, and a couple yelled to me to stay there so they could talk to me because their neighbor has an MG and they need help with it, then the three of them all started a three way conversation, all as the traffic began to back up. I love living in small town Vermont
As I was driving home on RT 2 I told my son the car was running quite well. My son then said said, "um, can you slow down a little, I don't want any more nuts to fall off..."

Great story. It sounds like there is plenty of MG service business nearby for you.

Awesome Dave! I really enjoyed the story. Glad you were able to get home safely -- nuts still intact!
Frank Cronin

Glad to see that it's on the road, David. I trust you signed those folks up for The Register. Looking forward to seeing the both of you in Middlebury. Bud

Bud,

I'll finally get a chance to meet you. I'm on the committee with David (and others) and we've been working out butts off to bring Register Members a great GOF. Can't wait for the Vermont Covered Bridge Tour.

Almost everything is sold out. Lucky you registered early. The banquet is sold out and there are only 2 or 3 rooms left in Middlebury, that David wisely blocked. A couple of spaces still remain on the Lobster Dinner Cruise.

Working desperately to get the TF in shape. Just finished o'hauling the valve gear and started on the H4s tonight. Found an NOS exhaust system and that goes on, on Monday, But Jeff at Advanced can't touch my distributor for at least another 4 weeks. So I'll suffer with it as is.

Gordon, I'm not registered. I'll be doing it as a day trip. Should be arriving about 10:30 Saturday morning and hanging around until mid-afternoon. Looking forward to meeting you. Bud

Be well,

Yup! My TSO just arrived. Another great issue, now all 48 pages in colour.

And there's Bud on page 5.

For those of you not members of the NEMGTR, may I say that this magazine is worth every penny of the annual subscription of $35. For $5 more you can join The Register.

TSO arrived today. Thanks for the kind words. I think this is my 25th year in The Register. Bought Lazarus in September, 1988. I'll be looking for you in Middlebury. Bud
