MG TD TF 1500 - Sorting MG TD Tools, a fun pastime.

The car is off the road, it is snowing anyway, so decided to mess around with tools. I have been collecting the various items over the last year. Peter Hehir made me a wonderful replica tool roll, so spent a pleasant hour or so this morning assembling everything and putting them in the roll. With the exception of my cylinder head spanner (mine is an MGA era I believe) my tool-set is correct for my 53 TD. I have found a few neat goodies over the year including the electric tea kettle.

That is a nice set!
I have one of Peters rolls too and it looks great.

Simon I was looking at the photo you posted and noticed the kettle. It's an item I've always been curious about. I looked on ebay and found one! I just placed the order and should have it within a couple of weeks.

It will be an item of interest to go with the car.

Some years back I purchased a tool kit with the tool roll new from a fellow who had the license to make them from King Dick. It is missing a couple of the tube spanners and tommy bar.

I still need to find a grease gun and tire pump as well.

Thanks for sharing.

Looks great !
I have a nearly full set too.
Should the spanners be round or hex inside?

Not sure what you're referring to Mike? The spanners have parallel sides obviously, to grip the head of the bolt or nut, with a gentle curve that joins the sides. I have written an illustrated document detailing the original tools that comprise TD & TF tool kits that I can send you on the understanding that this is NOT for circulation or publication. Cheers

Peter,

Would you please send me your treatise on the TD tool roll, I would greatly appreciate it.

The kettle draws a lot of current : 18 A. And you need to connect it for 10 to 15 minutes for boiling. Need to have a very good battery (with engine running) and also a good wiring harness to the inspection plugs on dashbord to lessen the voltage drop. If not : no boiling, no tea !

Thank you, Laurent for the information on the current draw of the tea kettle.

In my case it's a pretty sure thing that it will see no such use. I've been wanting it as more of a collectible item to show with the car, along with the plug-in little trouble lantern that I did get with my car.

Interesting period pieces that add to the interest in these little machines.

I don't plan on trying to actually use the tea kettle. The wiring is quite brittle but more importantly the inside of the kettle is disgusting. No way I would actually drink anything that came out of it.

Jim you have mail. Cheers
