MG TD TF 1500 - Spare wheel cover
I have searched online and not found anyone who can supply a nice cloth spare wheel cover for my TD. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

Martin It's pretty easy to make one yourself (if I can anyone could!). I made mine out of black vinyl obtained from the local fabric shop. (yeah a guy in there with all the women!) Just took the spare off, measured approximately, cut to a basic circle, folded over the edges, gathered excess into a circular shape over the back edge of the tire, stitched it (can't remember if I did by hand or borrowed someone's sewing machine) with a one inch or so seam for a smooth edge. Added a couple of elastic strips to pull sides tight behind the tire to keep it all in place. Added a cloth MG emblem (~8inch or so) to the center. Has never flown off in 30+ years. As I said pretty easy to do. I'd like to find another cloth MG emblem as it has faded in 30 years. Randy ![]() |

Hi Randy I guess I could do that. Hadn't even thought about making one. I'll have a go. Thanks Martin |

Moss USA has them in their T series catalogue. |

Maybe Martin, like me, wants a cover in tan stay-fast, like the other fabric on the car. Has anyone bought one of those from Moss recently? It always seems to me that they are overly expensive for what they are. That is why I have not bought one yet. Are they worth the $200 list price?? Tom '54 TF |

Randy, I like tour cloth emblem but an alternative (I don't know if mine is homemade or store bought but this is how the PO did it) is the just punch three holes in the cover and mount a hubcap on the spare tire and wheel. Jud ![]() |

Martin, contact me off line via my e mail. I think I have a stayfast cover. |

For a tire cover, you might want to check with your local Canvas person at a nearby Marina,,,,, If you have an old tonneau cover, they might even be able to make you a new one..with custom SIDE zippers,,,,, SPW |

Jud, yes I've seen a few that used the spare hub cap method. I happened to find my cloth emblem at some swap meet or something many many years ago. Haven't seen one since though. I had the AMCO vinyl interior/top set in boxes as part of my basket/driver case purchase so vinyl matched what I had. |
