MG TD TF 1500 - Speedometer repairs
Midway in a nice 128 mile drive in my TD yesterday the non chronometic speedo went bonkers swinging the needle back and forth to the zero peg and back then registering approximately correct for a period. Odometer continued to work correctly. So it's clearly time for an overhaul. What places are good at this these days, Nissonger, Palo Alto Speedometer, MOMA, come to mind but are there better choices? |

Could be the speedo, but could also just be a failing speedo cable. Have you pulled, checked and lubed the cable? |

Although they are in the UK, either Patrick Henry in Ireland or Speedograph Richfield in England do superb work at VERY reasonable prices. |

Just wondering how many of you have changed your fore and aft, positive ground, turn signal and dash lights to LED's? And, of course, the cost and where you purchased them e.g. Moss etc.? And, did any of you experiment with different types or make up your own platforms yourself? Cheers, Barry |

John, with the way you speedo is acting it has been my experience that the cable is most often the culprit. Why not take the speed out of the dash and drive it with an electric drill running in reverse? Don't use the cable but make up a drive pin by filing a large nail to fit the square in the speedo, cut off the head of the nail and put it (not the head) in the drill chuck. Cheers, Hugh |

I'll check the cable but it is new less than 500 miles ago. My experience is bad cables can cause a 10-15 mile per hour wobble in the needle, but never a gyration from 0 to 120 MPH. |
