MG TD TF 1500 - Steel Muffler Supplier for TF
One of our club members is looking for a steel muffler for his TF. He has the S/S system on the car now. His first muffler was replaced by Moss after less then two years. The second one is now giving him trouble. He would like to find a supplier to buy a steel one. Thanks Gary |

Go to any muffler/exhaust shop with the dimensions and input/output diameters of the muffler you need, and they can usually match it up. I have a memory that a Ford Falcon muffler fits, but remember no other specifics. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

I'd bet it has a loose baffle. That's what happened to mine. I'm not to happy about it. It sounds awful at just the right engine speed. -David |

I have Falcon stainless pipes and mufflers on the TF and the MGB. The TF is no example, not run enough, but the B has and no issues have presented themselves. The system still looks like new from 2006. PJ |

Yes it is loose baffling inside. He was hopping to find a dealer that could supply a muffler that was correct for the car. Either in the USA or UK. Sometimes the off the shelf generic mufflers do not sound the best. I will tell him to try the local muffler shop, if no other source is found. Thanks Gary |

For what it's worth, I have the Falcon S/S on all three MG's. The one on the B has been there for 20 years. No problems. The one on the TF began to rattle on the way to the GOF in Chicago 2 years ago. The straight through tube inside was loose on one end. I was able to spot weld it back in place to stop the rattle. It's not stainless by the way. But the packing is pretty much gone from the inside. I'd like a direct replacement for it but I have know idea where I can buy the Falcon muffler. Moss no longer carries it and their Tourist Trophy line is not a direct swap. I see that Barney Gaylord had basically the same issue and shows how he repacked his. With the MGA muffler near the rear I believe you can get away with what he did. On a T with the muffler under the cockpit I wouldn't feel all that good about his plug method. At some point I may cut mine open and repack it and then find someone that can weld the stainless can back together. |
