MG TD TF 1500 - Steering Column Supports
Thathe workshop manual and Brown and Gammons web site show a clamp mid way along the steering column, about level with the circular plate that holds the lower felt oil seal in. Also shown is a long bolt and a spacer tube which I think fits to the body. Can someone please explain where this clamp fits. I originally thought the clamp was secured to the turret that supports the firewall but I cann't find a hole. My brother is also restoring a TF which he imported from Arizona. There is no sign of the clamp on his car - are the LHD and RHD ones similar. Someone please help - I am finding some jobs are a real pleasure and others are a nightmare. Fitting the column in turning out to be the latter! Cheers Jan |

If the clamp that you are referring to is part #RHH 6005 is is used to adjust the height of the steering column. It fits between the ears of the bracket that supports the column. |

Jan, my RHD TD steering bracket installation is exactly a mirror opposite of Dave's picture. I don't have a picture of mine but I will be glad to take one for you if you want it. |

Jan I hope the original TF owners will weigh in here but I was under the impression that the TF did not have this clamp. |

LaVerne, I tend to think you are correct. Think this should be in the archives somewhere. George |

Never occurred to me that this was wrong. Got the car in boxes, but did look at a lot of them when putting it together.

That is correct David. TD doesn't have the bracket welded to the hoop. It has a bracket instead that is bolted up to the bulkhead that takes the same clamping you show. |
