MG TD TF 1500 - Still too rich
I'm perplexed. I tried to adjust the fuel mix on the carbs and it seemed to make no difference whatever I did. Loosen the big locking nut, turn the hex below one way or another, nothing happens. No amount of turning seemed to make it rise up or down, either; both just turn without appearing to make a change. What am I doing wrong? I hoped to find a video that showed the process clearly but unfortunately could not. If anybody can point me to one, I'd greatly appreciateit. |

Goeff, don't loosen the big locking nut. Tighten it when you have the jet centered and then leave it alone. Does your jet move easily up and down? Turning the hex nut to the left will push to jet down (richer). Turning the nut to the right will allow the jet to go up under action of the spring (leaner). Geoff, send me your snailmail info at the email address above. Bud |

Geoffrey, I had a similar thing happen but then I realized that I had the choke return spring(name?) off and even though I was turning the adjusting nut the jet wasn't moving. Then I manually pushed up on the jet as I was adjusting. Another thought....could the needle be stuck in the jet due to misalignment. More thoughts...The big locking nut should be used just to center the jet on the needle and not for tuning. More...What is the height of the fuel level below the bridge? I think too high a level would cause it to run rich no matter what the adjustment. Mort |

Geoffery, The washers under the jet bearing need to be shimmed to lock the jet bearing from rotating when the jet adjusting nut is turned to raise or lower the jet. The preload of the spring tension of the adjusting nut is set by this shim or washer combination you may need to add more to keep the jet bearing from rotating when turning the mixture adjusting nut. Bud is correct do not loosen the big nut after the jet is centered. As Mort also states, check the fuel level in the jet, below the bridge, with the piston & dashpot removed.
