MG TD TF 1500 - Stock spares.

I'm going to start compiling a spares list of items that I ought to carry on a say 2000 mile trip. Those items that a knife, piece of string, gasket paper and gaffa tape wont fix. So suggestions appreciated

I recall a couple of threads in the archive on this topic. Cheers

There are lots of posts on this in the archives, one is

"Preparation for a 1500 Miles Trip"

Another was called "Spares survival kit?"

"Suggested Spare parts for Trips?"

The need to carry specific parts has waxed and waned. It is no longer necessary to carry a spare distributor if you have fitted a Pertronix unit, but a spare points plate is strongly advised. If you have had your fuel pump rebuilt by Dave DuBois or his successor, there is probably no need to carry one (but if you have one, you will never need it...).

If you have up-graded axles (see https://mgtrepair.net/AxleShaft.html), there is no need to carry a spare.

The BEST thing you can do is prepare: have the generator and starter rebuilt, and your VR converted to solid-state. Have Jeff Schlemmer rebuild your distributor, and Peter Caldwell rebuild your shocks. Change all your fluids. Spin-on filter adapter. Carbs rebuild by Bob Johnson. Put the car on a lift and check everything like u-joints, u-bolt tightness, alignment, brakes, tires, etc.

Cell phone and charger, AAA card, laptop for asking questions on the Boards...

I never carry any spares because my car never breaks down.

It's only now having read the replies and reminded myself that nearly 60 years ago in my first MG I travel that distance with no thought of "spares" Whilst older and therefore more cautious realizing that certain spares are less readily available now I've decided couple of plugs, condenser, points and fan belt plus gaffa tape, gasket maker, basic tool kit and my Get You Home Road assistance is all I'll need. Now a days I can afford the hotel accommodation whilst the cars sorted.
P.S. This enquiry was basically because my wife said is the car prepared and have we got all we need. My response "Ofcourse dear" (fingers crossed)
