MG TD TF 1500 - Storing Car on 2 Post Lift

First World Problem.

I have brand new two post lift. I want to store the MG TF up and the Jag MK2 under.

Ignoring the oil leaks which I will have to accommodate is it OK to store the car with the suspension hanging?

A trawl of the web has differing views. People raise issues with the stress on the suspension. Particularly with the rubber bushes. Seems logical to me. On the other hand plenty of people say it is no issue.

The car will get driven at least once every two weeks as it is what passes for summer here in Ireland.

I could make a frame like the one below. But is it necessary for an MG TF?

Dave every year I park my MGB up for the winter, normally from October until March/April, I do not put it on a 2 post lift, but I put it on stands, I put the stands, in the same position as I put the lift arms, which means the suspension, is hanging, I have been doing this for the last 11 years, and have had no suspension problems, with doing this.

But Andy, a TF and MGB are two completely different cars in structural design. MGBs being a unit body is very rigid, a TD and TF are wooden structured with sheet metal literally nailed on, the bodies and chassis are very flexible. Dave, I'd do some measuring the first time you lift it, could create a problem with the doors. PJ
PJ Jennings

I do it all the time.

Mr Jennings, I thought the concern was for the rubber suspension bushes, not the chassis, as Dave has that covered with his plans for a frame.

If you wanted the cat's pajamas, I'd suggest making up a jig for the two post lift arms that will index the axle beam in the rear near the spring shackles and the spring pans near the king pins up front so that you pick the car up and store it on its suspension. This leaves the car "sitting" as it was designed. Or... you could just lift it. I think sometimes we over think these problems. As for the ash frame on the tub... I doubt that is much of an issue as the tub sits on the box beam frame. I would just make sure that all four lifting pads pick up the frame as close as possible to the same time to avoid any twist. But again... don't over think it. Just get it reasonably close and lift away.
Alex Waugh

Alex I like your thinking... it would avoid any issues with creating flat spots in the tyres from the frame I was thinking of.

I will do that depending on complexity / security.

Otherwise I will create the frame eventually. If nothing else it keeps the wheels further up and more head room.

Thanks everyone.
