MG TD TF 1500 - Studebaker-powered TD parted out

I find it absolutely appalling to see good project cars turned into scrap for the the greed of a buck. Marginal can s is one thing but with so many people looking to a project it's just a shame just my two cents |

I would think you could contact the seller and see if he would sell the complete car as is. With the Studebaker running gear I don't think the seller would get a great deal of money for the parts. Hugh Pite |

Wasn't someone here on the BBS looking for their dad's long-lost TD with Studebaker power? Could this be the car??? |

Yeah, I was right - it was Jay Laifman. I'll see if I can raise him on the other forum. http://www2.mg-cars.org.uk/cgi-bin/or17?runprog=mgbbs&access=&mode=archiveth&subject=8&subjectar=8&thread=201409242139181999 |

Why would anybody want to re power a TD with THAT engine? That Studebaker six was junk! The main bearings would go out too soon. David |

Ah the bid states ($175): THIS ADD IS FOR THE SPARE TIRE RACK WITH LICENCE PLATE BRACKET. MANY OTHER PARTS AVAILABLE TC / TD / TF ETC....... Who knows what he wants to for the whole car or how much of it might be left at this point. |

I don't know anything about the seller (I started a thread a while back to see if anyone else did), but he is clearly a stripper - he is the sort that strips a transmission down to nuts and bolts, and sells them individually. No great supporter of these cars, as far as I am concerned. Tom |

I believe I do know the seller. He has run a successful MG restoration business for many years. The cars he has restored are fantastic examples and he has a near encyclopedic knowledge of T-Series cars. He has been very helpful to me with my TD restoration. His personal mode of transportation is a MGA MKII that is a beautiful car. I've heard he has been dialing back the business over the past few years. The story I heard is that he has engaged a third party to help him liquidate a lot of the left-over parts cars and stuff he has collected over many years and that's who is putting them on eBay. |

This particular car doesn't appear to be that much original or good left. While saving or restoring it would be nice, the money would be insane. Have to remember anyone buying the parts is using it to repair/restore and get their own TD on the road, so not all bad. I do think stripping something like a tranny is not good, I bet most of the parts are thrown away. George |
