MG TD TF 1500 - Supercharger HP Improvement - TF

Well, I've finally got around to having the supercharged TF (Terry Peddicord's blower) checked on the same dyno that I used before I fitted the charger. I have a fast road cam, 8.5 to 1 compression and larger valves. Without the blower I got 52.1 HP at the rear wheels. With it, 66.1 HP - 27% improvement for 5.5 lbs of boost.

My first run after the blower was fitted was on a different dyno and gave me 70 HP, but I've always found that one to be optimistic.

For the MGB owners out there, 66 hp at the wheels is the standard B figure.

PS Which could explain the gearbox disintegrating on the track at Levels .....

Sounds about right... Here was my before and after at 4800ft ...basically a stock engine and yes it was comparable to my MGB...until I put a blower on it. Love to see some pictures of your installation.

That looks like a pretty good figure for your altitude. I assume that it's a 1250, like mine. My installation is pretty much like anyone else's, except for a few details.

I found that my engine sits a little higher than most, so I can get the drive belt on without slackening the mount. Also, the standard 45 inch belt is too long for me - if I tension that belt the two sides touch at high revs, shedding teeth. I now run a 44 inch. I also found I have to run the tension pulley on the drive side of the belt, because I can't get enough clearance on the slack side.

I am dubious about running the car without the bar which joins the front guards, so I have fitted a mild steel strap to take the bump load - easily done and I'd recommend it to anybody. It is twisted thru 90 degrees so that it sits flat behind the radiator, and attaches to two new holes in the original bracket.

I remove the blower from the manifold to fit it - this makes life a whole lot easier, as you don't have to expand the width of the car for access. If you replace the two lower attachment screws with hex it makes attaching the blower to the manifold easier.

Final detail. I found that, with my setup, the standard NA needle was too rich at the bottom end once it was satisfactory under power. An SY is perfect for me.

Thanks for your interest.

Look familiar?

L E D LaVerne

Dave, do you have a print out, graph or chart, showing the torque as well as HP?
Len Fanelli

Sorry, Len, the chart I have is too pale to copy. However, it shows 60 - 65 ft/lb over the range 2,800 - 6,000 RPM.

The picture shows where I've had to put the tensioner on the drive side of the belt. Not good practice, but I can't fit it in the other way. You can just see where tension brace fits, too.

Maybe my plumbing is different.
