MG TD TF 1500 - T register(s)
When I meet people over here owning a T series I always try to persuade them to register their car. Not only in the registers of our Dutch based clubs, but also in the T Register and the register of Totally T Type. And of course Merson's list. However, I think it's a pity that there seems not to be a one-and-only leading T Register. How come? Jasper |

The MG Car Club T Register SHOULD be the worldwide authority and keep the master database. However, due to UK privacy laws and the provincial attitude of some of the other Registers and listings, it isn't universal that these listings are shared. That is not true of the Triple-M Registers, as the registrar for the North American Triple-M Register, I, and most of my counterparts in the rest of the world, regularly share our existing and newly found survivors. |

I thought we all shared information about our cars. Didn't know the Brits had a restriction law in place. A world wide data base would be wonderful! JMHO. PJ |

George Merson maintains his list as a hobby. Anytime he sees information about a TD, with the Car Number, he adds it to the list with the location. Any other information is added, if available. Bud |

Now I am totally immersed into the world of the MG TF in particular for me the TF 1500 I often wonder how many are still around. Regards George |

Paul, It is certainly true that most owners are willing to share the information about their pride and joy. However, we are typically not publishing our address and phone number. Therefore, it is not the purview of a club or register to do it either, certainly not without our permission. The UK has laws to prevent anyone other than the person them self to divulge what they consider to be private and personal information. You may also be proud of your bank account, but you probably wouldn't share that information. The MG Car Club registers will provide certain information including whether a particular chassis number is known to exist, it's owner's name and country, but that's about as far as it goes. Some US based registers won't even do that unless you opt in, and then want to charge you large sums of money to get a copy of the listing. But that has been discussed here before - ad nauseum. |

I am in agreement with Lew, that there should be only one dataBase. If you've ever written a dataBase and published it, you'll quickly find that everyone reads and writes to your records, each time creating a new dataBase, resulting now, in many dataBases on the original one, and not one of them is the Master. I have a couple of dozen entries I could add, but I've not added to George Merson's "list" for a couple of years (Its certainly not a dataBase) as its in ASCII in WordPerfect (I'm not dissing WordPerfect - in fact, its the absolute best word processor anywhere), but one cannot track cellular data in an open ASCII format which George has done bgy using spaces (or tabs) between the firlds. I have tried unsuccessfully twice to parse his records. This is an enormous job, and by virtue that each record has disorganized fields, makes it neigh-impossible, and I'm not likely to try a third time as its too time-consuming. I'm 81 and I have better things to do with the few years I have left. However, if someone more skilled wishes to parse George Merson's "list" into a comma-delimited cellular format, then I'd be prepared to take it from there, and put together a proper dataBase in FoxPro, Access, Paradox or even dBase III (yes, a DOS program still runs like lightning!) The Triple M Register is the best motor club dataBase I have seen, and that's what the T-Register dataBase could look like. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué. |
