MG TD TF 1500 - TD 30-30 versus 20-20 Ammeter

I am wanting to know when the 20-20 ammeter changed to a 30-30 ammeter on a TD ?

I asked this same question in 2011, and Dave DuBois replied, "The change took place Oct. 5 1951 at car number 10751. Cheers - Dave".

I believe this is also when the flat-faced chronometric instruments were replaced with dished-face ones.

Rob,

Here is the complete information, from the "The T series Handbook, by Dick Knudson.

"TD 10751 (Oct. 5, 1951): On left hand drive cars the original flat-dialed chronometric speedometer and rev counter were replaced by dish-dialed magnetic units. At the same time, the 20-amp ammeter was replaced by a 30-amp unit, and the on-off panel lighting switch was replaced by a rheostat. These same changes were introduced on right hand drive cars commencing with TD 10779 (Oct. 8 1951)."

I assume that you require the information for RHD cars.

Strange, my TD owned since 1977, number TD8986 made July 11, 1951 has the 20-20 ammeter but not chronometic speedo and tach, I suppose between July 1951 and August 1977 when I acquired it, the speedo and tach could have been changed over.
John Quilter (TD8986)

Since they often need service, the tach and speedo are much more likely to have been changed than the ammeter. I suspect that at some point one or both needed service, and the car's owner had access to a pair of dished instruments with which to replace them.

Very possible, the car spent its first 12 plus years in Massapequa, New York just in the vicinity of Nisonger Instruments, the Smiths agents located on Long Island. Unfortunately due to the recent hurricane, Nisonger is no longer doing instrument repairs that they have done since at least the early 60s. They are still in business selling reproduction Smiths and Jaeger gauges according to an email I got recently from Peter Bayer, the owner.
John Quilter (TD8986)

John,

I believe you have confused Massapequa on Long Island with Mamaronek which is located in Westchester County on Long Island sound and where Nisonger is located.
