MG TD TF 1500 - TD 7169 is Back on the Road!

I've completed the restoration of TD #7169. I purchased it in June 2012. It was on the road during the 2012 summer season. Great fun and an opportunity to get to know the car and determine what kind of work was needed. It was in very good driving condition and mainly in need of a repaint and an interior (the trim panels were all missing). I brought it into my shop in October 2012 and started work. The workscope grew (of course) and I eventually had the engine and gearbox out for work, replaced the electrical harness, updated the electrical system, changed the color to Clipper Blue, incorporated a low-ratio rear axle and on, and on and.....

I road-tested the car and spent a couple of weeks rectifying minor problems. I drove the car out yesterday (20 deg F, -7 C), for photos and preparation for winter storage.

Many thanks for all those in the forum who helped along the way. You helped me resolve many thorny problems and provided lots of suggestions for improvements to the car. Your help made this enjoyable project a lot more fun (and less stressful)!

I'm trying to upload some additional images, but they won't go. Perhaps I've exceeded some limit. I'll try again later.

Welcome to the club! Nice work.
There is no limit to number of photos from what I've seen. Maybe files too big?

Ed, the one I had trouble with was the same size as the first two. I'll try another image (also same size 124 KB.

Corey Pedersen 1951 TD #7169

Well, that worked. Must be a problem with that one image.

Too bad the cold weather is here. It's going to be hard to wait until spring to put some miles on it. Good looking job.

Corey,

Beautiful work. Congratulations. The Clipper Blue is an excellent choice.
Charles Duffy

LOve that Clipper Blue. There are not a lot of them out there. I see a lot more TC's in that color as the only years it was available were 50-51 The factory discontinued it after the 51 year run. Great choice
Tom Maine

Congratulations! I especially like the dashboard, I wish TFs had wooden dashboards that one could tart up with burr walnut or mahogany or....

May this lovely car give you many miles of happiness!

Thanks guys.

Tom, your blue TD is one of the cars I studied before making my color choice. I wasn't totally convinced until I resinstalled the chrome items. That really made the color stand out.

Looking forward to getting it on the road next spring. Until then it will be mothballs and battery maintainers!
Corey Pedersen 1951 TD #7169

Corey, I feel the same way, Chrome just stands out on the color. One of the reasons I went with the chrome wire wheels after I finished the car. I think the cars look great in the color..Till next spring then out it comes again. (car is in hiding for the winter ahead)
Tom Maine

The blue really looks sharp

Tom,
Now I'm a bit confused. (doesn't usually take much)
But... my TD 15129 has a documented build date of 15 April 1952. It is currently sitting in my "to-do" barn. It has a really ugly chipping and peeling repaint job in some sort of dark purple. But under it all there is what appears to be the original color - Clipper Blue.

RwB Brown

Malcolm Green suggests the colour range was changed in 1952 with Clipper Blue then no longer available. This note appears on page 102 of his book "T Series Restoration Guide". He doesn't say when the change happened in 1952 so it is certainly possible that TD 15129 was originally Clipper Blue with that colour deleted from the range sometime after TD 15129's build date.

Very Nice Corey !!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully we will see it at British By The Sea 2014!! AND at the GOF in Middlebury VT,,
Is the red TD that you use in your logo also in your collection??

SPW
STEVE WINCZE

Thanks Steve. Yes, the BBTS event is on my calendar. I attended the 2013 event (with my 1962 Corvair) but I didn't see you there. I know that you keep very busy running the show!

The red car is the same car pre-restoration. I tried to change to image yesterday, but apparently I didn't do it right. I'll try again!

I'm looking forward to seeing you at the club Christmas party on Dec 14.
Corey Pedersen 1951 TD #7169

I've deleted the red car image from the "Customize" window, and tried to upload a new image in "Upload an author's picture or logo". I've been unable to load the image. I tried several times with two different images. Can someone tell me how to do this?
Corey Pedersen 1951 TD #7169

Corey,

Beautiful job. I hope driving it brings you great joy. Looking at it sure does for me.

The color stuff and year, I got that somewhere, cant remember where. My info said in 51,but it most certainly could have been 52. Records are sort of not available from the factory. In any event,it is a great color. Morris carried the color after 51-52.
Tom Maine

HHuumm,,, I also had that problem,,, can't upload a new one,,,,
STEVE WINCZE

Corey,
Mike Plumsted is working on the Authors Logo Issue,,,

I remember seeing a Corvair arriving at BBTS last year, I sure hope that you were directed to park in the "Spectators Specialty Car Parking Area"!!!!!

SPW
STEVE WINCZE

Steve, yes, we did park in the reserved area. It was a great show and a marvelous day.
Corey Pedersen 1951 TD #7169

Hey Corey,
Great job. We can all appreciate what you had to do to get to this stage. Congratulations. The car looks terrific. I hope our cars will meet up at an event soon.

Thx Mort. I enjoyed meeting you and seeing your car at last years BBTS. I trust you'll have your engine issues sorted in time for the next BBTS!
